Meet Heather Shaver | Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Shaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The role that taking risks has played in my life directly stems from the idea of doing what you can’t. Like when I decided to pack up my little Corolla and move from Florida to Colorado in a days notice, many people told me “You can’t do that, Heather. Where are you gonna live?” To their surprise, I stumbled into little Longmont and fell in love with it. When I decided to become a photographer, I thought I couldn’t do it because I didn’t have the highest tech and equipment. However, that didn’t stop me from taking a risk and putting myself out there. The idea of doing the impossible or believing in yourself enough to do so is what drives me to take risks every day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is capturing the beauty of a moment between a person, place, or occasion. To me, photography is creating an image that tells a story just by looking at it. Whether it be a passionate kiss at the altar or smiling from ear to ear because you are about to walk the stage and receive your bachelor’s. A surprise proposal to family pictures, the opportunities are endless when it comes to capturing beautiful moments between beautiful people. As you can tell, this topic is one I am passionate about and take pride in and believe it is why I am where I am today professionally. Of course, it wasn’t easy but I truly believe that despite it being difficult, it doesn’t feel as such when you have a passion for what you do. To be honest, the beginning stages of trial and error are some of the pivotal moments in my career. To overcome these challenges is by taking them one at a time, as I tend to get ahead of myself and expect the worst at times. I have learned that believing in your mission, yourself and your business is the first crucial step and everything else follows after. I want the world to know that Tuesday Photos is in the business for creating special moments for you and your loved ones and bringing to light whatever artistic vision you have in mind.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The beauty of Longmont is the small town feel but it’s packed with lots of great places to eat, visit, and hang out!! Id say the first stop on the list is a late morning walk at the beautiful McIntosh Lake! This is one of the first places I visited when I moved to Longmont and it has remained a favorite of mine! It is an easy 3.5 mile loop with a great lookout of the mountains, sitting areas around the lake and farm animals nearby. After those 3.5 miles, I worked up quite an appetite and am definitely craving tacos from the best place in town, Blue Corn Tacos. If I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be carne asada tacos. When I discovered Blue Corn Tacos, it quickly became my go-to post shoot meal. I am definitely a “dessert after my meal” type of gal, so the next stop is Sweet Cow! I love all the different ice cream flavors Sweet Cow offers! They switch them pretty frequently so you always have new flavors to try! To end the day strong, let’s finish with some thrift shopping at the local Arc Thrift Store! Not only are you helping the environment by recycling donated goods, you can usually find some great pieces for a sweet bargain!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel like this is my Grammy moment! Okay seriously, I would love to give some love and recognition to the ones who made me who I am today! First and foremost, my mother who raised me and inspired the name behind my business. Tuesday is what my mother wanted to name me and has always regretted not doing so. I would also love to thank my four sisters and brother–Stephanie, Brandi, Joshua, Rachel and Mary for being my drive behind everything I do. For my boyfriend, Jackson who has always encouraged me to follow my dreams and who loves me unconditionally. I can’t forget about my fur baby, Honey who provides me with such companionship that has guided me out of my darkest days.
