Meet Heidi Dack | Entrepreneur & Cowgirl

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Dack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small town in Western North Carolina but have always had a love for the West and the ranch lifestyle. My parents taught me to work hard and pursue my passion. At a young age, I started working with horses because we couldn’t afford lessons. I longed for life on a ranch, so in college I started working on dude ranches in Colorado and then in Arizona. This lifestyle taught me so about resiliency, hard work, and perseverance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of my love for the West. . I want to make the West accessible to anyone, no matter where you are, through Western art, handmade western jewelry, customized hats, leatherwork, and unique pieces. . I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, longing for the life on a ranch out West. After finally being able to fulfill that dream, I fell in love with the lifestyle even more. My passion for the West and what it stands for is the reason I started this company I want to instill resilience, hope, and beauty in my pieces because that’s what the West is all about! I want to appeal to everyone and educate others on the freedom and the simplicity of life on the ranch and how it creates connection. Connection to God, connection to others, connection to nature, and connection to animals. The Ranch and Western lifestyle is a beautiful and rare thing. We are all unique and that is what I want my clients to feel like they are getting with my products, unique, one of a kind, and high quality. “Always be a unicorn in a field of horses.” I didn’t grow up around horses, I had to work my way up where as a lot of people grew up riding and had lessons and were super confident, but it really helped me challenge myself and work hard to be a cowgirl. Nevertheless, I felt like a unicorn in a field of horses. During college, I got Lyme disease and it has taken quite a toll on my body. Sometimes I deal with flare ups that cause me to be very sick and makes a physical job even more difficult. Also, my husband joined Space Force and we found that the ranches were just a little far to drive and I was thinking that for my health as well, it would be better for me to bring the ranch and the West to wherever I go, and so Unicorn of the West LLC was established in March of 2022. I am so excited about Unicorn of the West and hope that others find a love for the West just like I did.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first and foremost take my friend to the place where I fell in love with the West…Tarryall River Ranch. We would go for a trail ride and then stop at the old Cowhand store in Woodland Park and get a new cowboy hat. I love supporting small businesses and these businesses are the epitome of what I want to support. They bring you back in time and help remind you of the important things in life, connection, the simple things in life, and pure freedom. I would also take my friend to the Wolf Sanctuary, a place like you have never seen before. It is a beautiful sanctuary that educates and astonishes you with these wild and beautiful creatures. We would go to dinner at the Juniper Valley Ranch, have drinks at the District 11, walk down Old Colorado city and Manitou Springs, have coffee and cocktails at the Ivywild school, tour Glen Eyrie Castle, see the animals at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and of course hike at Garden of the Gods. There are so many amazing places here and I feel blessed to live here and call Colorado Springs my home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Joel Dack, for always supporting me and and encouraging me in my entrepreneurship, to my sister Anya Kasischke, for always believing in me. And to my mom, dad, and younger sister Kara for their support, love, and helpful ideas. And thank you to Kirsti Logan for connecting me with a great network out here in Colorado!
