We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Helen, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
People like to look at starting a business as a risk, but to me it’s just a more obvious one. Because everything about life and being alive is a risk, at all times. Whether you put it all out there and try to create something or if you hang back and don’t ever put yourself out there at all, both choices have inherent risk. Could you lose everything trying? Maybe. Could you never gain or learn anything by not trying at all? Also possible. Perspective is everything. It’s worth it to try something that feels important or meaningful to you.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Best One Yet is a vegan, gluten-free ice cream truck roaming the streets in the Front Range of Colorado. Find our pints in local stores and markets, too! Was starting a business easy? NOPE. But I feel like the best way to start is to just do it and have some people around you who know more than you. Ask all the questions that you have and more will keep coming. Befriend other women in your industry and other women who have been where you are. They’ll be able to walk you through the things that feel difficult to navigate. It’s pretty cool how I’ve had people do that for me and I’ve been able to do that for others, too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my husband, Colin, for believing in me more than I believe in myself. And all of my friends and family who have been encouraging when I’m down and remind me how far I’ve come. It’s really easy to forget, or to lose sight of the strides you’ve taken. I’m lucky to have some people in my life who are always ready to remind me.
