We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Solo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ian, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think I pursued an artistic career out of boredom for the most part. There’s only so much tv that can be watched and video games that can be played. As the artistic venture grew, it became a great way to express my thoughts on the world, hopes for the future, and explore the idyllic version of myself. But yea, at first it was just simply something to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a hip hop artist who takes a lot of pride in my rhyme schemes, lyrics, and musicality.

What sets me apart is kind of a tough question for me to answer. I think that’s up to the listener. Hopefully there is something unique about my music!

I am most proud about my performing ability. My next EP, Character Development (which releases on 03/30/2022) is my favorite project I’ve ever worked on. Really excited to put that out and have people listen.

The biggest challenge is probably self doubt based on how people will perceive your art and budgeting for studio time/video shoots.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like to do a double header at Red Rocks – run the stairs in the morning and then come back at night for a show. Pretty fun way to kick off any vacation. I love sports, so any Rockies, Avs, Nuggets, Broncos, Rapids, or DU hockey game is a good option. Also, go see a show at a smaller venue – preferably some local music.

You can usually catch me drinking at the Irish Rover on Broadway, Skippy’s off Iliff, or Meadowlark off 27th. As far as eating, I live right across the street from an Illegal Pete’s so that’s a must, El Five for something a bit fancier, and then Pie Hole for a slice after drinking too much at Irish Rover.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow. There’s a ton of people who have helped me out a long the way. I could type all day and still leave people out. Victor Sanchez, who performs as Vic LadoEste, deserves the biggest shoutout. He sparked my love for music after a 4 year hiatus and we performed as Loco-Motive for a period of time. We continue to collaborate. He produced two beats and recorded one verse for my upcoming EP. Also Buggz and the whole crew at Bright Future Studios. Buggz is the best engineer I’ve ever worked with and has been a huge influence on my development as an artist. Finally, Sulton Griffin, for being the first person to believe that I could make it as a hip hop performer and one of my favorite collaborators. Tim, Eric, Jett, Klimecki, Curt, Annex, Pape, AJ, Jessie, Lily, Sean, Emily, Emma, Kyle, and Libby all deserve a shoutout. They know why.
