We had the good fortune of connecting with India K. Easley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi India K., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ahh, that’s a good question. I simply do not like to be micromanaged and I’m sure many people feel the same way. I have always wanted to own my own company. I wanted to be the one in charge of the work that I completed. I wanted to be able to control my work life and the best way to do this is to start your own business. I don’t have to worry about answering to anyone else or being told how to perform my job duties. That was my initial thought process and that was enough to push me through the beginning stages of starting my company.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

The Write Easley, LLC is my baby. It’s my legacy. It’s my late father’s continued legacy as well. The name Easley means the world to me and I just had to start a company to showcase the name. Being that I’m a writer; I thought it would be cool to make the business The Write Easley because you’re choosing the right Easley for the job and it’s also a play on words. Cheesy; I know but catchy at the same time.

The Write Easley, LLC is where ALL business dreams come true. We are business mentors and consultants who have the client’s best interest in mind. We work closely with small, medium, and large for-profit and nonprofit organizations. We bring all documents to life that will be needed to make our client’s organizations and businesses prosper. We are known as the “one-stop shop” and that’s what sets us apart from others. Our service area also spans all 50 states, 15+ countries, and 4 continents. We NEVER turn away a client because ALL clients are welcome to inquire about our services. Even if a client asks us about a service that we may not have listed, we will still provide it to them and provide them with whatever they need.

I’m most proud of the accomplishments of the company. I’m happy to hear from clients who have been awarded the grants that we have written for them. That has got to be the best part about this job. I love the lives we are touching with our work. Whether they are near or far; we have assisted them all in a major way and that’s enough for me.

Hard work is how I’ve gotten where I am today. The teaching of my dad assisted a great deal as well. He always taught me that every day is a learning experience. That statement alone made me so eager to continuously learn so I could continue to be great. I have an extreme work ethic and I never stop achieving my goals. I make a goal, and shortly after, I achieve the goal, and then I make a new goal to achieve. I’m a go-getter. I seek all of my opportunities regardless of if they are initially presented to me. I never wait for an opportunity. I’m the type of person who will go the path less traveled because that equals success. When one door closes, I don’t wait for another door to open. I go and open the door myself and place myself at the table of excellence. Those who wait around for opportunities waste entirely too much time and that’s something that I despise. I cannot waste time in life because there’s so much to do in life and I will be damned if I do not make sure I experience it all.

The process was not easy to get to where I am today. I worked extremely hard. It started with me working to be able to graduate high school at the age of 16 so I could have more time in life to get out in the real world. I kind of had my life planned out at a young age. I knew I would be successful but success comes with the price of hard work. I did have a lot of help from my family though. I had a great foundation as a youth to know to never give up until I succeed. Success takes time and takes patience. That was instilled in me as a youth as well but more so to be a go-getter. My mom, dad, and grandma were always showing me as a kid what it meant to get what you wanted. It only takes hard work but the result is always worth it. I guess you can say I was extremely blessed to have great role models. In different ways; each one of them (my mom, my dad, and my grandma) showed me how to be successful. I appreciated that as a youth and I appreciate that as an adult too.

I’ve learned many lessons along the way. The BIGGEST lesson is that I CANNOT satisfy everyone no matter how badly I want to. Some people just cannot be pleased and that’s no fault of mine or there’s honestly. It’s just how they work. I’ve learned to have an even thicker skin than I already had. This industry that I’m in is crucial. The weak will never survive because it’s hard. I have no problem admitting how hard it is. Knowing the difficulties has allowed me to tailor my approach better and assist my clients in the way they need other than the way I may want to assist them. It’s about learning about my clients and learning their needs.

I want the world to know that we are all human. We all make mistakes and we do not think we are the smartest people in the world. No matter how many grants we win for clients, no matter how many awards we are given, and no matter how many lives we touch, we are still just regular people doing a job. Sometimes that gets lost in this industry. Sometimes people do not understand that we still have feelings too. We carry out the best work for our clients but that comes with a price. A price of respect, understanding, and humbleness. We don’t ask for much from our clients being that we handle all things on their behalf. We just ask that clients trust the process. This company was built on the legacy of my dad and I refuse to ever tarnish it. I am a very honest, optimistic, God-fearing woman. I hold those same standards in my company. Our clients know that we take care of them in every way and we give them the experience of a lifetime. We are just honest people and I want everyone in the world to always know that. We have your back no matter what.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If my best friend was in town, there are plenty of places I could take her. Honestly, I always find the best little spots to eat, have a good time, hike, and just enjoy the scenery here in Colorado – and include some time for shopping. A week-long trip in Colorado can be filled with so many different places. Honestly, I feel like you need more than a week but here are a few of the places that I enjoy going so I’m sure my best friend would too. In my opinion, I’d like to start the week-long trip in a fun city.

Eat: Rasta Pasta
Activity: Hiking at Helen Hunt Falls and Garden of the Gods

Day 2: Colorado Springs
Eat: Bingo Burger
Activity: Seven Falls and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Day 3: Morrison

Day 4: Bolder

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my family; especially my wife. Being a wife to an entrepreneur has to be extremely difficult. She sees everything that others don’t. She sees all of the behind-the-scenes stress, hardships, achievements, and accomplishments. She’s no doubt my biggest supporter besides my mother, grandmother, and my late father. It’s just different for my wife because I can’t hide the stress from her. She knows when something gets under my skin about this job and she’s there every step of the way to support me. Never have I wanted to give up this position but I know if I did; she’d never let that happen. She sees all of my potential and understands my work ethic. So I want to shout her out. She’s much appreciated for putting up with the life of an entrepreneur day in and day out.
