We had the good fortune of connecting with Irene Shick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Irene, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my own business, I had no clarity on what my goal was at first; I had no IDEA what it even meant to own my own business. Here is what I knew: I was a brand-new mom that left a high-paying career to try my hand at the “Stay-At-Home” mom thing. I pictured myself making pot roast and crock pot chicken, playing with my little one and doing laundry…and some sort of side-gig to bring in some extra funds to bridge that gap that we created – it was picture perfect in my mind. What happened in real life (what is revealed when that high bar you set for yourself a story up offered no directions on how to GET there) was I needed a plan. I needed a goal and to find my WHY or my intense motivation for the reason I wanted all of my house-wife duties AND to still feel like a woman with some semblance of a career. I knew my WHY was my sweet baby boy and the life the three of us were working to create. I needed a career that I could control and that I didn’t have to “report” to someone when I needed to sleep in because my baby didn’t rest all night or if I did absolutely no “work” there is no penalty. And when I was really ready to rock it because I eventually got into a groove, I didn’t want any ceilings. I wanted to call the shots and I knew likewise, my success and my failures would all be upon my shoulders to learn from, grow into and create a life that exceeded all of our expectations..
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been selling homes in Denver Metro since 2013. I’m thankful to be in the top 5% of producing agents in my office and run a top team. What I brings to the table is special: 1st: I’m a Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist. This gives my clients an enormous advantage, when so much is on the line and superior marketing can make or break a sale. 2nd: I’m a Keller Williams Seller and Buyer agent – with a reputable network of over 160,000 agents on 5 continents, enabling me to market my listings not just locally but globally. 3rd: I have has spent the majority of my life in the Denver Metro area, qualifying me to work with buyers and sellers from all over town. 4th: I have a professional designer and stager as part of my team, enabling me to help my sellers properly stage their home, and my buyers to envision a space they would not have otherwise seen. Lastly: I am unusually dedicated to each and every one of my clients, and their reviews lend credibility to this fact. It has NOT been easy as originally shared – many days and nights of tears (it still happens sometimes!) but there is nothing like seeing the sheer joy and gratefulness of people finding their dream home or selling to the right people that will love their space as much as they did. It makes it all worthwhile, as I grow towards my own goals. What I want the world to know is that there ARE fair and integrity-driven Realtors out there – I proudly state this fact about myself!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE to visit LoHi – SO many great places to eat and drink: El Five is my favorite spot in LoHi – they appeal to the vegetarian and carnivore alike! Beautiful cocktails and breathtaking views of the city! My Neighbor Felix has great, modern Mexican food and delicious (albeit a little conservative on the portion offered) margaritas – can’t go wrong with their plantains and guac! I would also suggest checking out Cherry Creek North, one of my other favorite spots. The best service can be found at Hillstone – get the Old Fashioned and fabulous Hawaiian Ribeye! I think one must take in a concert at Red Rocks at night! An experience and views that will be a lifelong highlight…and also I would be remiss to not encourage a visit to the Hot Springs! So many to chose from based on what you’d enjoy but who wouldn’t love “clothing optional” soaking when the sun goes down?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Greg – he certainly has learned the cooking and cleaning roles along side with me and has had to break through the archaic ideals that the wife or mom is the one who does all of these things. Very thankful for him to continue to allow me to be successful as well.
