We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Healy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaac, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
A lot of my childhood memories involve hospital visits, surrounded by white/grey walls and people I don’t know telling me terms that felt like an alien language.

I went through 15 extensive surgeries on my head growing up and as you can imagine, my upbringing was pretty unconventional. But in a weird way, that’s what made me want to keep going.

Through all of the monotony and pain a hospital life can bring, my mind went to more creative mediums (like Spider-Man and video games and film) to escape.

I learned through these mediums how to smile at it all and appreciate everything that life brings. Now I use these mediums to help others do the same. Seeing people in there most vulnerable state, is what inspired me to pursue this path. I realized I can help people and inspire people by being creative and doing what makes me happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hey folks, I started streaming on my PS4 back in 2018 on YouTube, because I felt lonely and needed to reach out to the world. My initial thought was I was going to eventually do film tutorial videos, (something I still intend to do) which is why my name is Odd_Angles. But as I went on playing video games and meeting people, I learned that I loved streaming. I eventually moved on to Twitch in 2020 and gained more opportunities, like promoting games and doing giveaways for companies like EA.

I met so many wonderful people and continue to every day I stream. I cultivated a community that eventually helped me finance an amazing setup and PC, called The Odd Squad (I think the most amazing part of this community is how much they support each other).

Through all of this, I’ve been able to launch a side project I call, the HFXspiderman Project. Which is where I and others go out as Spider-Man and inspire people to help others in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It’s still in its infancy, but I’ve been going strong hitting the streets of Halifax, supporting local business, promoting good causes, and helping sick kids/families with visits and video messages. More and more people are catching wind of this little side project and we are now creating a little spiderverse, it’s pretty spectacular.

Doing all of this has taught me a lot, having to do all of this while working a job can be difficult, time management, scheduling, and learning to communicate can be difficult, but it’s a necessity (these are things that I sometimes struggle with). My largest challenges with what I do was taking care of myself and setting boundaries. Having a personal life when you are so genuine on the internet can be a fine line and for any new comers I suggest you set boundaries first and let people know what you need. Because boundaries will and can be crossed. What helped me is surrounding myself with people that support me and exercising being vulnerable with them, before being able to be vulnerable online.

Going out as Spider-Man helped me overcome that as well. I was able to connect with people on another level, through the lens of a character and it helped me build up my confidence.

I suppose what I want people to know about me and my brand is that I’m just a normal guy, who wants to help people and inspire others to do what they love. My brand is always evolving and I like that, it’s meant to be as genuine as possible. I’m just trying to create a space where people from all walks of life are welcome and we can all have a good time and talk about cool things.

I want to leave something behind that reminds people that they can do whatever they put their mind to, even if that one thing entails running around in a red and blue suit. You never know what difference you can make and positive impacts you can bring if you don’t try.

Thanks for listening, folks.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are ever in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the summer, it’s pretty fun. There’s a lot of free concerts that usually go on and cool little markets/multicultural events going on.

There’s a pretty big drinking scene if you are into that, but I don’t drink myself, so I’m happy to say there is still a lot to do in the summer.

We would check out some local food spots like “brown hound public house” and “lot six” and walk around the city, seeing all the parks and murals. We would go to the waterfront every day and check out what new vender or musician is there. Maybe sit on top of the wave and look out at the water.

There’s a decent comedy scene here too, I haven’t been to them much, but everyone talks about it and I would love to go sometime.

There’s plenty to do in nature too in and out of the city.

Citadel hill is an awesome place to vibe and learn about history if you also want to take a tour.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am extremely lucky to say that a lot of people throughout my life have inspired me to keep going.

My family helped me a lot growing up and nurtured my childlike wonder that I still have.

My community on twitch (The Odd Squad) has been and continues to be a huge support for me. They’ve got me through a lot of hard times and given me a place to feel heard.

My best friend, Brandon inspired me to start everything I’m doing now.

My girlfriend, Melody (@mellowfellowship) continues to heal all of my doubts and makes me feel like a true superhero.

There’s so many more people I’ve crossed paths with that have made my life better, you know who you are. Thank you to everyone, for allowing me to be myself and supporting my passions.
