We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivana, Diana and Ashley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivana, Diana and Ashley, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Go big or go home” never sat well with us, even though that was our initial direction. As new business owners we wanted to provide the best of the best products and aesthetic to our clients, but our pockets said otherwise. We were on the hunt for an $80,000 loan, in the middle of a pandemic, and we were denied week- after week. We associated success with a build out that would cost us weeks in delaying our grand opening and “high end” products to retail and use on our clients. The goal was to “go big” because we weren’t going to let rejection send us home. After a sit down with our contractor, who’s had years of experience in business, he expressed its ok to start small with little to no debt and work towards the luxury we eventually wanted to deliver. That was the best advice we could have received, instead of carrying the burden of debt weighing on our shoulders, we are becoming profitable at a faster rate. Reassuring us the services we provided and the way we make our clients feel was all we needed to open our doors. Rather, we believe in “Make it work with what you have.” What you have is already big; you just might need to change your point of view.
What should our readers know about your business?
It all started on one drunken night during the Covid-19 pandemic. The three of us came together after not finding a sense of fulfillment in our careers. We share a common love for the beauty industry and want to revolutionize the common “high end” salon where we value our clients and their time as opposed, to quantity over quality. Our testimonials are a confirmation of the “good vibe” energy we have poured into this business and our culture; having transparency as our platform we cultivate trustworthy relationships. We are proud and excited about our prime location in Edgewater, being fairly residential while still being surrounded by other small businesses, makes us feel like we are apart of a community where the growth is endless. We got to where we are today through trial and error. Having no experience in business but a desire to open a salon where clients from all backgrounds felt welcomed. Where us as owners and our staff, feel like they can grow freely and creatively and where we could truly feel content coming to work everyday, was all we needed to keep our tunnel vision. We’ve learned to persevere even when you’re at dead end; create your own path. Also, don’t be afraid to triple check absolutely EVERYTHING, it doesn’t hurt to have reassurance. We want the world to know you create your own reality, unhappy? Remove yourself. Trust your gut and take that leap of faith. We want to leave this world knowing we empowered the lives of many women and helped them exploit their confidence.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course, the main place would be to our salon. I mean, “she” is our baby! To follow, stay in the area and soak up the sun at Sloan Lake for a walk around the lake, maybe drinks at the rooftop brewery at Joyride. We would definitely set out a day to visit the Rocky Mountains for a long adventurous hike. The views are breathtaking!! Stopping at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park for thrill seeking rides is always a good idea and soaking in the hot springs at Strawberry Springs is rejuvenating. To bring out our creative side, we’d visit the Selfie Museum and take all the selfies! Next, on the itinerary would be a nice dinner with a gorgeous view of Downtown Denver at El five. A Rockies game, (if Covid wasn’t a thing) would be a must, ending the night for a delicious slice of pizza at Happy Camper. Lastly, we would suggest squeezing in time to white water rafting. The adventures in Colorado are endless!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We humbly would not be where we are today if it weren’t for where we came from professionally. If it weren’t for being in an environment we knew we didn’t want, we would have never recognized our own capabilities. We also want to thank our contractors at Luna Commercial Roofs, our commercial broker at Hoff & Leigh, they believed in us even when we began to question ourselves. Our amazing clients for supporting us through all of our transitions. Reading Rework by David Heinemeier Hansson and Jason Fried gave us great perspective on entrepreneurship. Listening to The Thriving Stylist podcast gave us advice on salon ownership. Lastly, to our friends and family, there were many times we needed to sacrifice events to pound the pavement and attend a meeting or needed an extra hand with painting. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Without your encouragement and understanding we truly would not have come as far as we have and will only continue to go.
