We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivy Rios and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There was never an actual plan for a business to come out of what I do. I started decorating as a hobby, it was my stress-relief. My passion for wood work started at a young age. My father is a carpenter and I grew up learning as he created beautiful masterpieces. This woke my passion for creativity and designing unique pieces. As I got older, I got busier with nursing school, but would still try to take the time to learn from my dad.
When the pandemic hit, I was left without a job. This left me stressing out, which in turn, woke up the creative in me again. I started occupying my time in my shop, and that’s how the idea for Simplicity started.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Simplicity is different than other because we specialize in custom, unique hand crafted pieces. This goes along with event planning very well. We have the opportunity to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for each one of our clients’ events. We always take into consideration what the client wants and can incorporate already-owned articles into any piece. We like to take the Simple and elegant approach with every situation and turn it into magic.
My sister’s feedback has been an amazing tool to help me grow personally and professionally. She has vast knowledge in social media, and entrepreneurial things. I have also taken various courses in event planning, event management, decoration & design, and food safety. This has helped elevate my confidence and my knowledge as an event designer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting the area, I would take her to seven falls first thing in the morning for a morning walk. I do not like to eat out much, so I would create a delicious breakfast spread with some amazing Puerto Rican coffee. After breakfast, we would go walk around Manitou Springs for some thrift shopping and local snacks at Loft Espresso.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give thanks to my mother and sister for always rooting for me. My mother is always there to cheer for me, and my sister has taught me so much and helped me grow as an entrepreneur. Also a special thanks to my biggest supporters, my daughters and husband. They support me and my busy life day in and day out.
