We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Marlene Escajeda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J. Marlene, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over the years I realized that what matters the most to you it’s what you should put first. For me it was my health and my family.
I used to work 6 days a week neglecting my personal life, I missed experiences with my family and now I can’t take that time back.
You create you balance by figuring out your priorities and knowing your worth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started almost 10 years ago, not having formal education but that never stop me from learning from other amazing groomers, books and believe it or not Youtube. It wasn’t easy, but a lot of kind and amazing groomers helped me a long the way to learn and be a better groomer.
I’ve learned that you need love, patience, and passion to be a good groomer.
I am proud and excited to be starting my own business “Little Visitis By Marlene” offering quality and compassionate grooming services to small, senior, and special needs that can’t have a comfortable experience at a regular salon.
I want the world to know that there’s a groomer that wants to make a difference in a pet’s life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To me a perfect week with a friend will be taking them hiking, camping and exploring the mountains. I would love to show him or her the peace and comfort nature can bring in to your life. Take a little time to slow down their busy life and appreciated the little things.
I prefer to be out in the wilderness than to go to restaurants or bars…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To all family and friends that have been there for me and my family. I can’t express with words how much you mean to me.
My parents, my husband, my daughter and my sisters, I love you.
