We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Winfrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grant, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is attributed to former NBA player Tim Duncan, and it reads as follows: “Good, Better, Best, never let it rest. Until your good is Better and your Better is Best”.

This quote resonates with me because I am constantly looking for new ways to innovate and improve, not only my products and my business but every aspect of life. Never stop working because there is always an area where you can improve and make your good better, or your better best.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business manufactures organic, gluten-free, and preservative-free rubs, seasonings, and sauces! We got to where we are through a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck, with a touch of helpful guidance thrown in. It wasn’t easy, as retail sales are typically seasonal and inconsistent. However, we overcame a lot of these challenges by keeping faith in ourselves and understanding that inconsistency is just part of the process. Additionally, we’ve learned that trying something the same way and expecting a different result isn’t going to achieve our long term goals. Being adaptive and innovative is key to success in the modern economy.

Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are that no sale is guaranteed, but if you sit on your behind and don’t work, you’ll guarantee you won’t get sales. Working and putting your all into your business needs to be a given, but on top of that you need to be willing to bet on yourself and try new strategies and methodologies. Recognize when something is working, but don’t be afraid to tweak things in a new direction.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve only been to Denver a handful of times. However, the 16th Street Mall is a can’t miss! In addition, there are a ton of amazing places to eat and find fun things to do. Sam’s Number 3 in particular is an amazing breakfast spot. You really can’t go wrong with other meals, however since you’re in the Rockies you HAVE to get your hands on some elk. It’s the tastiest meat around, and twice as nutritious as beef. Be sure to stop by Edward’s Meat Market for an amazing selection of elk meat, along with our Carne Asada and Montreal Steak Rubs!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I’d like to shoutout is my fiancée Rachel. Not only is this amazing woman my rock and partner in life, but she has extensive know-how to operate businesses and advertise them online. She is also an incredibly skilled photographer, and her photographs of my products elevated my website traffic to new heights.

In addition, Rachel owns her own business and we have used our mutual entrepreneurship to motivate each other, which is vitally important. Owning a business is quite the rollercoaster career, as sales can often be feast or famine depending on the time of year or economic climate, and having a partner who can help keep your spirits up during lean times can really make all the difference.
