We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaci Schorling and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaci, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
My business took a little longer than I’d hoped to actually be profitable… so the greatest decision I made was to stay the course, to persevere, and not give up when things got uncomfortable.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have a chiropractic and acupuncture office specializing in pediatric and perinatal care. I look forward to going to work almost every day, and that alone is something I believe sets us apart. If we aren’t excited to be there, why should anyone else? I’ve worked hard to create an environment where people feel better leaving than they did coming in, no matter what ailment brought them in. This is through our hands on care and the genuine love and compassion we share with our clients.
Owning and operating a business has certainly not been easy, but I have experienced seasons where I felt like I could coast for a while, while other seasons I feel like I’m at the bottom of the manitou incline and I may never get to the top. When I started I was a solo practitioner with no previous business experience. I’ve had to learn how to create systems and procedures and then put them on paper so that when I eventually hired staff, they could have something to work from. I’ve had to learn how to manage and lead a team of people, with zero prior managerial experience. I still have so much to learn but I am truly dedicated to getting better every day, and knowing that I’m human and I will make mistakes… and when I do, I take ownership, make necessary changes, learn from my mistakes to hopefully avoid repeating them, and move forward.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends or family visit, one of our first stops is always my office for an adjustment. Who doesn’t love an adjustment after a day of travel?! We love heading for a hike or cross country ski session in RMNP and stopping at Claire’s for a late lunch afterward. Living in Northern Colorado, there are a plethora of great breweries and it’s impossible to pick a favorite. Any time my family visits, their trip is incomplete without dinner at Sol De Jalisco in Windsor, and we all order the same dish, chori-pollo. It’s seriously delicious!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My high school marketing teacher, Derek Deaver, planted so many seeds. His classes were designed around starting and operating a business, from basic business math to strategic operations to marketing. I was actively involved in DECA and my senior year project required me to create a PR campaign for a local business and then pitch my ideas in a competition setting. Mr. Deaver made business and marketing an absolute blast and I rely on principles from his high school class on a daily basis.
