We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Butl3r and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is others. If it wasn’t for my friends and family, I wouldn’t be where I am today. From all of my friends & family back in Illinois, to the friends and family supporting me in Denver and other cities across the globe, your love and support is the best. I couldn’t ask for better fans. Honestly, I have the best support group around. With my home life filled with 3 amazing roommates, Cat, Mickey, and Sally, thank you 3 for being such amazing friends, and such loving people in my life. You all continue to support my vision and cause and push me to keep smiling and enjoying this life. My wonderful partner Jessica, my oh my how you surprise me every day and love me for who I am, for who I am. You judged my character right off the bat and I am forever in your debt for continuing to love and support me unconditionally. My family that’s 1,000 miles away, you always show me that you’ve got me and will continue to love me no matter the distance. My family in the Massih’s. Andrew, you always have taught me well, and have always been a driving force for me to never give up or give in. Amanda, you always have kind words to say and always are such a good time to be around, you remind me to stay goofy even when times get tough. Tony, your ambition is unmatched, and that inspires me.
Needless to say, there is a HUGE amount of people that support me on my journey, and for all of them I am forever in your debt. I Love You All SO MUCH!!!!!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ahhhh this time I’m going to focus more on my DJ career as Butl3r. Last time I talked about the brand that I vend, EVOL Colorado, so this time I’m going to switch it up. (Also please go check out EVOL Colorado and everything that is in the EVOL Collective! Lots of amazing artists and new friends await!)
*Ahem* So, what sets my DJ project Butl3r apart from other DJs is the fact that I can cater to any crowd and bring the vibes to any event. What do I mean by that? I mean that I can read a crowd and go off of the vibes that are presented in front of me. I can mix just about any genre on the fly and make mashups on the fly too! I’m most proud of the fact that I have single handedly become one of the few locals that can mix on the fly without a preplanned set-list. That’s the whole thing about being a DJ vs a producer. A DJ is a disk jockey, a mix-master, someone who can blend and create new sounds from 2, 3, or even 4 songs at once.
I am most proud of the name I have made for myself, and the quality of work I can bring to any event. I got where I am today by learning, adapting, and evolving to different scenarios. Honestly, my work in multiple gentlemen’s clubs at the start of my career helped me the most if I am being honest. Being able to go from rock to hip hop to EDM is what made me Butl3r the most. That’s how I got to read a room so well and helped me adapt to new situations. Was it easy? ehhhhh I’d rather say right place, right time.
The biggest lesson I had to learn through everything is to never undervalue myself. Stick to my guns and know my worth. Not everyone can do what I can do, which is why I am such an asset to any event/party/experience. I used to always sell myself short. There’s a science to it. After so many events, I finally came to my senses, and I realized that I’ve became senseless. While I could go on and on with Less Than Jake quotes and incorporate them into this interview, I’d rather just leave it at this; I did too much free work, and now I know where to put my time and effort. Don’t sell yourself short for anyone. Period. The friendships, the businesses relationships, all of it isn’t worth putting yourself under what your worth. either people find your value, or they don’t. It’s that easy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This actually JUST happened for me, and it was so perfect. AHEM
So, firstly, get some nice dinner over at Mutiny over on Broadway for some awesome food and drinks. It’s seriously a favorite place for myself and friends out here. Nice rooftop view during sunset is something you can never go wrong with! Afterwards, going and walking down Broadway is always nice. After that, drop by a local venue like The Black Box or Your Mom’s House. Both typically are an amazing choice.
The next day, start early and go to Denver Biscuit Company for some great breakfast food. I cannot recommend the Giant Cinnamon Roll enough! Everything there is delicious, and you honestly can’t go wrong with any choice! After that, head over to Meow Wolf and go exploring. We all spent around 4ish hours just walking around and looking at all the amazing art that was from floor to ceiling. It’s a whole experience, and worth spending as much time as you can in there, so get there early! we ended our day by going to Red Rocks. Now, going to any Red Rocks show you can is the best choice you could ever make, however we were lucky enough to go to the South Park 25th Anniversary. As always Red Rocks has a special place in my heart, and that night reminded me why Red Rocks and Colorado is my home.
On the final day they were here, we went to downtown Golden and went to Tributary for some morning food and coffee. For those who don’t know, Tributary is a great local spot for many different types of restaurants, with different foods, and drinks for any mood. After we grabbed some great coffee and skillets, we walked around, exploring the local stores, like The Golden Game Guild! I’ve always loved games, and cannot express how much I love that store, and the owners of it. Where else can you go play any board game you can imagine and enjoy great drinks and people? It’s my number 1 local gaming store for SURE! After that, we walked in and out of all the local stores the strip had to offer. Once done looking and shopping around, we went and drove to Evergreen to explore and see the sights that you can only get in this amazing state. Towards the end of the night, we drove down to Garden of the gods to walk around and observe the beauty that is nature. after sunset, we drove back up to Denver, got some food at Tap Grill in DTC, and went onto a rooftop and just relaxed and took in all the sights.
Needless to say, there was a LOT done over the course of 3 days, but you can honestly spread this all out over a week.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my Shoutout to my loving family of Butler’s, Sukow’s, Rutherford’s, Massih’s, Everyone back home in Chicago, Everyone in Colorado, The EVOL Family, The Cairo Family, My Fans, Friends Old & New, and everyone who takes the time to listen to what I have to say & present. I love you all and thank you for your continued support. None of this would be possible without any of you. Seriously.
