We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Pennington Gacek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always felt like I was kind of a misfit, or someone who walked to the beat of their own drum. I had my own ideas and visions. I see things in color. I’m not an overly logical person. My interests and passions are creative, romantic and colorful. I’ve always wanted to leave the world more beautiful. I see beauty in almost all things. I just want to capture fractals of my imagination in time and put them out in the world. Im grateful to be naturally inclined artistically and aspire to be the best version of myself. With so many talented artists around, how can you not be inspired? I’m in awe at the lives that these creatives and artists live. It seemed magical and free. That’s the kind of life I wanted.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2016 I left a bad situation. I threw myself into the art of creative photo shoots and never looked back. It empowered me to get through one of the hardest times of my life. I’m so grateful for that. When I started, I did every project anyone wanted. I was constantly busy. Networking and improving the skill. It wasn’t easy, but compared to how my life had been up until that moment it was beautifully messy and worth all the effort. Today, I consider myself a conceptual artist. I am not limited to fantasy/couture hair and make up. I also design sets and headpieces, costumery and build elaborate props. I’m a creative director of sorts! I do it because I love to do it. I live for it. Beauty By Wicked Bubbles is me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up in the heart of the rocky mountains. I was constantly surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. It taught me how to appreciate the simplest of beauty. I would most definitely take my friends hiking in the hills. I personally love to be outside! I’m also a huge fan of the Denver music scene. I’m always happy seeing live music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Specifically, Eve Jenkins, Ginger Broderick, Erik Ballew, and Liz Gilani. They adopted me into the creative fashion community and really took me under their wings. My love for creative endeavors began within my high school theatre group. Its kind of what kickstarted my love of bringing fantasy to life. So big thanks my family and friends who have always believed in me. My husband. Especially my husband. His unwavering support of my art over the years transformed my entire life. And my most of all my daughter. She makes it all seem worth it. I want to show her you can do anything you dream.
