We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Allen, MSOM, Dipl. OM, L.Ac. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a female-entrepreneur of a Spirit-led healing center, my business creates a safe space for the hearts and souls of my community to be tended and nourished. Every person that leaves my office, leaves in a more regulated state than when they arrived, has greater access to higher levels of consciousness, and moves through the world in greater harmony and alignment. This has a ripple effect that moves outwards impacting far more than just the individuals that I work with. I believe that if Acupuncture were made available to everyone and we were all receiving regular wellness treatments, that not only illnesses could be prevented, but the state in which we move through the world and live has humans would be elevated to amplify greater peace and harmony as a way of thriving – moving us out of survival states and into creative states that our world so desperately needs.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In its truest form, the work I do is Soul Art.

Classical acupuncture itself is a medical art form. In its original language, the acupuncture points were named, not numbered as they are in the West. Each name tells a poetic story about the energetic pathways and vital centers within the body. These names reveal a map of life moving through us.

Acupuncture does not work through the simple insertion of metal into the body. Its power lives in the energetic intention, understanding, and presence of the practitioner. Each needle placement, the order in which points are chosen, and the subtle techniques used to guide the needle influence the “story” we are helping the body weave.

Healing, in this tradition, is not simply the absence of disease. It is the radical presence of a radiant heart.

Every treatment I offer carries a thread of removing the blockages that stifle the Heart. In Classical Chinese medicine, the Heart is more than an organ—it is the seat of spirit, creativity, and consciousness. When the heart is clear and nourished, our lives begin to express themselves more freely and authentically.

This is the philosophy behind my practice, Two Roots Acupuncture. The name reflects an ancient understanding of life: everything grows from two fundamental roots. One root drinks from the water of the earth, and the other breathes with the air of heaven. In the language of Chinese medicine, these are the forces of yin and yang—matter and movement, rest and vitality, earth and sky. Health arises when these roots are nourished and in harmony.

Because of this, I often describe myself as a human gardener or a human tuner.

Sometimes this medicine feels like tending a garden—removing what chokes the soil, nourishing what wants to grow, and trusting the intelligence of life itself. Other times it feels like tuning an instrument—listening carefully, adjusting gently, and allowing the body to return to its natural resonance.

Energy is not something abstract or ethereal. It is profoundly tangible. When we approach the body with the same care and intelligence that we offer plants in a garden or instruments in an orchestra, healing becomes less about controlling the body and more about supporting the conditions that allow harmony to arise.

We want our bodies to sing the story of our lives. For that, we must be in tune.

And we want the seeds of our lives—our gifts, our love, our creativity—to nourish the world. For that, we ourselves must be nourished.

When illness appears, something in the system has lost its alignment or fallen out of tune. My work is to listen deeply, restore the roots, and help the body remember the music it was always meant to play.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take them out into nature. Chaffee County where I live is 80% public land and there are remarkable places to visit the Earth that nourish one’s heart: the rivers, the mountains, the forests, the lakes, etc. And if we were going to enjoy the town, I would take them out for live music, which Buena Vista is well-known for either at the Surf Hotel or the Lariat or any of the other local venues that have music. For food, we would eat at Simple Eatery, Sushi Thai, or Wesley and Rose. And we would go shopping at local thrifts stores like Luna Vista Revival. And we couldn’t forget the hot springs – Chaffee County has three extraordinary hot springs which are an incredible way to replenish and recharge after a vibrant and active week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to Shoutout to the Classical Acupuncture Mentorship started by Dr. Sean Tuten, DOM. Sean was my first teacher and made a significant impact on the course of my study as well as the paradigm from which I practice my medicine. Classical Acupuncture is different than what they teach in American colleges – which focuses on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Classical Acupuncture maintains the spiritual component of every aspect of this medicine and focuses on the health of Spirit, as the core principle guiding all physical manifestations and imbalances that occur. In this way, the medicine becomes a lens from which to not just understand dis-ease or dis-harmony; but a lens to understand our humanity. I am often told I am dramatically different from other acupuncturists people have seen – this is why.
