We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquelyn Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquelyn, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
It was COVID and being at home more I found myself wanting to “spruce” the place up, but I found myself being very limited in home decor selection in my hometown. I get that WalMart has a place, but I was so sick of going there and having the same items in my home as everyone else. So, the idea began there and turned into more than a home decor store, it began turning into a platform for women owned businesses and I ran with it. During COVID there were so many women with at home businesses that found themselves very restricted in where they could sell in-person so I decided to go with a business structure of at least 90% of the products in my store will come from women owned businesses, because empowered women empower women.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For a long time, I was a stay-at-home mom and loved every minute of it!! As kids get older and more independent the desire to have something of my own grew stronger. I went to school for interior design and also have home staging experience, so naturally opening a store front seemed fitting for both. I don’t know that I can categorize myself as professional, but I could categorize myself as passionate. So, to me the biggest challenge of that is trying to get others to experience that same passion and the only way I could ever do that is through customer service at my store. Yes, I want them to spend money but more importantly when customers walk through the doors, I want the whole environment to inspire them in their own homes and I think we do that pretty well. Not sure I will reach the world with my brick-and-mortar home decor store, but I think what I would at least like my corner of the world to know about my brand and story is that whether, I am buying from your business, you are shopping at my business that I am cheering you on. There is enough success for us all and we should want that for each other.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
All the outdoor adventures you could think of. Fishing at Meadow Lake, hiking Rifle Falls, golf at Rifle Creek Golf Course. Dinner’s downtown are amazing, I can’t call out just one restaurant we frequent them all. Most of them have outdoor dining so grabbing a beverage and sitting outside relaxing is always a good way to unwind the day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely my husband and kids! When I started to come up with this idea, he was 100% in and supportive of me. My kids helped unbox inventory, put price tags on things and even helped me with cutomers once the doors opened. I could not have done it without the incredible support of my family. Also, credit to this community that I live in, they shop local and that means the world to me.
