Meet Jake Beau | Independent Music Artist & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Beau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been an artist since day one. I’ve always been surrounded by creative friends and family, and when I was a kid, I didn’t always fit in. I find solace in creative expression when traditional forms of communication with the world fail to satisfy me. During the 2020 lockdown, my view on life, the world, and my purpose evolved immensely. I became acutely aware of the many problems this crazy world is facing right now. I also began a spiritual journey, one that I’m still on. I realized my purpose was to share my ideas, thoughts, and love with the world, and to inspire positive change around me. By amplifying my voice, I can hopefully inspire those who want to see a better world to stand up and take action in whatever way they can. This could mean a CEO running their business in an environmentally-friendly and socially-conscious way, a biologist reducing carbon in the atmosphere via bio-engineered plants, or a politician standing up against lobbyists for the real benefit of their community. These are just examples I thought of off of the top of my head, but you get the picture. I want to spark the desire and hope for change in the hearts of the people, as many others are already doing, and have been doing for decades. Even if I inspire just a few people to make meaningful change in the world around them, and give them a really good listening experience while doing it, I’ve done my job.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If my artistic journey was a pool, I’d say I just finished dipping my toes in the water, and now I’m diving head first and hoping for the best. I started writing songs in 2020, and this May, I just released my first single to streaming platforms. This is just the beginning, and I have a lot more to come! I’ve learned during that time that perfectionism is a curse, and no art is ever truly finished, so you have to kill that beast before it gets out of control. For my latest single, Pity Party, I toiled over different iterations of it for months. If I’d put it out earlier, maybe I’d have several other songs out by now. Look, everything can always be improved in some way, but there’s a risk you might never finish it, or you go so slow that you actually stifle your growth. Many artists swear by the fact that the more art you finish, the more you can hone in your skills and style.
What do I want the world to know about me? That’s a tough one, because I’m still trying to answer that question myself. I really just want to uplift and motivate people, and of course, push for positive change in the world. I want my music to be something that gives people that extra boost in their day. I’m grateful that I come from a very privileged position in the world, and I feel compelled to advocate for others who aren’t so lucky. I also want to advocate for the environment, because right now we need direct, drastic action on climate change, or we might see some big catastrophes in the near future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a student at CU, so all of my recommendations are around there. I’m a huge nature lover, so I’d recommend a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, for sure. The Loch Lake trail is busy for the first half mile or so, but after that there’s a lot less people, and the spot at the top is indescribably beautiful and serene. Chautauqua in Boulder is a great area, and the flatirons are a must-see. The Royal Arch trail is a short-ish hike there with some good vertical gain, so that you feel like you’ve earned it once you get to the top. It’s a great view of Boulder and the front range. I’m a huge fan of Boss Lady on The Hill, and their mac n cheese pizza with the spicy ranch is to die for. I also love McDevitt Taco Supply when I’m craving street tacos, and Tibet Kitchen for cheap, authentic Tibetan cuisine. The Pearl Street Mall is a must for soaking up the local vibe with street performers, restaurants, and shops. I busk over there sometimes, so you might see me! The Meow Wolf exhibit in Denver is truly one of a kind; it’s basically like getting teleported into a different universe for a few hours. It’s something you just have to go see for yourself.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of my friends and family have always encouraged me to keep going and continue working on my craft, even when my singing probably sounded like two cats fighting in an alleyway. I may never have gotten to where I am now without that. I can always count on them to give me that encouragement, but at the same time, honest, constructive feedback that helps me to keep growing.
