Meet Jake Pruyn | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Pruyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Every business is different. They are built differently, and they run differently. Though there are some fundamentals of every business that are consistent, each one has a different market, a different strategy to attract customers and different risk. The most important factor that I have learned and pass on to others is to stay within your means. This means having a good understanding of the environment around you, and then making decisions that stay within the parameters that will make you successful. For example, some people feel as if they need the flashiest location, and will dump a whole bunch of money into appearance, which requires lots of business in your first few months to pay for it all. Anytime that you can keep initial cost down, that takes away the burden, as you are trying to build your business or brand. And staying within your means also means that you, as an owner may not be making money for yourself for quite some time. I do not suggest throwing all your eggs in one basket, and potentially working a normal job as you were trying to build you business as well. The first six months are the hardest, and we also cannot see into the future of things that may affect your business that you have no control of, e.g. Covid. Long story short, always stay within your means, and do not blow your capital or initial start up money on things that are absolutely unnecessary, especially at the beginning.
What should our readers know about your business?
This particular segment has to do with my frozen yogurt shop. I am most proud that I was able to bring something fun to a small community that has limited resources. I am also proud to have had multiple businesses that survived the pandemic. Running and starting all these businesses takes time and effort, and that is what I am most proud of. I love knowing that my hard work and support from those around me put smiles on peoples faces every day. If you do not have pride in what you do or what you offer, then there’s no sense in doing it at all or to overcoming challenges in business, you need to maintain a level head as much as you can, and don’t let emotions overtake your decision making. You need to be thoughtful , calculated and not afraid to do what’s right. It is important to embody all elements of wellness when trying to manage a business or multiple ones. If you have holes in your game, for example, not giving your self healthy food or exercising, then the demands of a business can take a major toll on your body. Finding wellness in all other categories will help you amplify your potential of emotional and financial wellness. But I want the whole world to know is that stress will come your way every single day, so what are the questions you are asking yourself when times get tough? Do you have a system to level your thought process quickly? do you have the strength to persevere? When times are hard? I have found a pretty good way of doing that, and I would love to share my story and my tactics with those who need it. We need more people in this world that are looking to better this world, and better people along the way .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend came to visit, I would tell them that entertainment in our small town comes with a little imagination. If you are used to big city lights, and lots of commotion, this is not the place where that happens. If you are one that enjoys the more personable and slow down approach, then this place is great for you. On a perfect day, we would spend the time going around town to visit all the local mom and Pop shops. Then, depending on the season, we would go to the picket wire community theater which is one of the most outstanding and dedicated community theater programs in the nation. After a show, we would drive out towards Kim and find a place to turn off and look at the beautiful stars on display, as there would be no outside light disturbing it. If it was fall time, we could spend time in the morning going to look for tarantulas as they migrate. There are a ton of things to do in this area, it just might not be obvious at first. either way, if you’re a city person or a country person, always take your surroundings as a blessing. This may take a perspective check, however, everywhere on this earth is special, you just need to see it that way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout out to my friends and family, as they have been by my side as I have created and managed multiple businesses over the last 15 years. I would like to give a shout out to a new company I started with some friends called SUS, which is a clothing brand that gives back to people who fight stress every day. Just in the first two months of this company forming, we already have a tight connection with the MS society, and every article of clothing sold with the MS logo, along with our SUS logo, will donate back to the MS society for research and prevention. To all the people that I deal with day today that in power and benefit my way of life, I thank you!
