We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamaica Dolinsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamaica, how do you think about risk?
I think risk is a personal assessment. In my opinion, you never know until you try. I had started a successful private practice in South Florida, so why would I not try to create the same in Colorado. Personal connection is key in my profession. Once you find your passion within your field, you should excel. If you can talk about your passion with education to back it, then you can spread your own uniqueness. Risk is rewarded by bravery.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am truly proud of the professional that I have become. I have worked in a number of healthcare settings that have taught me many sides to succeeding as a sole practitioner. I believe that passion, is what makes your work not seem like a chore. If you love what you do, then the days are fulfilling. Of course, there are times of struggle. I was attending health fairs, networking groups, and handing my business card out constantly. It took time to build my clientele. I am thankful for the clients who loved my work and continued to share my name with the people that they knew. I still have so much faith in the kindness of others. The lesson that I value the most, and thankfully learned at a young age; what you give out, you will receive. I have been in business for 5 years in Denver. The last few years have been challenging with the loss of some clients, but the gain of new people who were excited to be treated during the pandemic. Selfcare was an obvious need for most. I helped a lot of my patients with acupuncture, easing away their stress and anxiety. Others were using this time to be more active and needed help with sports injuries. Readjusting and re-educating muscle tissue though massage is incredibly helpful. I incorporate acupuncture and massage together for an integrated session to maximize the body’s results. That’s my favorite way to help everyone!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Five Points/Rino, so there is lots to do! I love Work& Class for the wonderful food and drinks. Denver Central Market is my go to during the week for an easy dinner or take out. Matchbox was my first love in Rino. It’s a dive bar that encompasses the neighborhoods true beginnings. I have a scooter and always have enjoyed zipping around Denver in the summer for joy rides. Cruising to Sloans Lake through the Highlands is my ideal route. I love the outdoors, so Colorado has been a joyous new home for me. Reading a book at Cheesman Park is glorious as well. I would definately take my friend to Meow Wolf or to a show at Mission Ballroom. Mission Ballroom is one of the best concert venues I have ever been to.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, my parents! They always encouraged me to be myself. I was raised with an alternative upbringing. My parents believe in food therapy and taking care of your body. My father always encouraged me to move and be active. My mother had a home remedy for most aliments and cooked with intention, using local and our own home grown produce. I went to Florida College of Natural Health which lead me down a path to pursue healthcare in an “alternative” direction. I continued on to Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine, where I earned a Masters degree and truly realized that “alternative medicine” is a way of life that has been a part of civilization for more than 5000 years!
I thank all of my teachers for showing me different paths and lighting a new passion along the 17 years that I have been practicing medicine and treating patients.
