We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Swan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always found a thrilling joy to see my visions come to life in a variety of creative endeavors. Whether is be jewelry, photography or design, seeing the end result of an initial thought and the process within it, is truly a gratifying experience.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a jewelry artist who creates one of a kind copper electroformed pieces. Electroforming is a type of copper plating that is done with a power supply in a bath solution. This process takes several days, where copper particles slowly transfer to the desired piece creating a copper plating that distinguishes each piece with its own one of a kind texture. Something special about my craft and what I take pride in, is the fact that I actually hand-mine my Quartz crystals, digging them out of the Earth, and accentuating the natural details of each raw crystal within the design process. Since each point hasn’t been altered or shaped it is able to show the history of how they formed through time.
Being an artist is a continued struggle of just believing in yourself, your vision and your work. It is a battle that may change day to day, but if you believe in your passion you should never give up on the journey. I have realized that I must create, whatever it is that I do in this lifetime. It is what I strive for and my sense of self expression in this world.
I chose my business name, Meraki Made, as a reflection of this. “Meraki” means to put a piece of yourself into what you create; soul, creativity, and love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Exploring the hidden gems. Mountain towns with live music and breweries. But above all, exploring the alpine lakes, trails and mountains that get you closer to the beauty of nature. I feel like these are the experiences where we feel little in the vast world, we value more and live in the moment without trying to control everything. I also would likely plan a variety of activities such as mountain biking, climbing, and back packing. Love this active community in Colorado!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shout out to my mom. Always supporting my artistic endeavors and motivating me by her own amazing artistic skills.
