Meet Jane Gorman | Wedding Officiant and Life Cycle Celebrant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Gorman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jane, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Many people have asked about my journey to becoming a Wedding Officiant. It all began in 1994, when I got engaged in Boulder, Colorado. My husband and I faced challenges finding the right person to marry us due to our different religious backgrounds. Our Celebrant was patient, kind, and genuinely listened to us, qualities I realized I also possessed.
As my spiritual views evolved, I saw the struggles of friends and family who faced similar challenges. This inspired me to serve engaged couples, regardless of their beliefs or backgrounds. I embraced what I call “my calling,” became ordained, and have since had the honor of officiating weddings for family, friends, and couples across the United States and beyond. My husband now supports me in this journey and is also available to officiate ceremonies.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What distinguishes me from other officiants is my unique blend of experiences. Having spent years in the culinary world, I bring a sense of creativity and attention to detail that enriches the wedding ceremony. My background allows me to create personalized and memorable experiences tailored to each couple’s story.
I take great pride in the connections I build with couples and their families. Witnessing their love and joy on their special day is incredibly fulfilling. I’m also proud of my ability to honor diverse beliefs and backgrounds, ensuring every ceremony is meaningful and inclusive.
The shift from catering to officiating was both exciting and challenging. While I was comfortable in the hospitality industry, stepping into a more personal and spiritual role required me to adapt my skills. I embraced my passion for storytelling and ceremony, which allowed me to make this transition smoothly.
Throughout my journey, I’ve learned the importance of empathy and active listening. Every couple has a unique story, and being open to their needs and desires is crucial in creating a meaningful ceremony. I’ve also discovered the value of adaptability—each wedding brings its own surprises, and being flexible ensures a beautiful experience for everyone involved.
Of course this translates to my Cycle of Life Celebrations when a loved one has passed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start by exploring Boulder’s vibrant downtown. We would visit the Pearl Street Mall for unique shops and local eateries. In the afternoon we would hike the Flatirons for stunning views of the city and surrounding landscape. Lunch would be at The Chautauqua Dining Hall or at Dushambe Teahouse.
At the end of this day we would have a late dinner at one of my favorite restaurants.
If it is Summer we would head to Rocky Mountain National Park. Trail Ridge Road is stunning and we would stop at stunning viewpoints and of course hike!
I am a chef so in the evening I would cook a memorable meal.
The next day we would explore Denver and perhaps go to The Botanical Gardens or The Art Museum and eat at a fabulous restaurant or two!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Before becoming a Wedding Officiant, I ran my own catering business, Simply Gourmet, where I had the pleasure of working at a charming B&B called The Alps in Boulder, Colorado (now sadly closed). When the Officiant at the B&B developed dementia, it created an unexpected opportunity for me to pursue a new career.
I shared my desire to sell my catering business and embark on this new path with my family, and their unwavering support meant the world to me. I truly couldn’t have made this transition without their encouragement and belief in my vision!
