We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Hargrove and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jane, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Both my husband and I come from entrepreneurial family businesses, so you could say that the mindset to start a business is as natural as breathing. However, I didn’t necessarily set out to start a business. I’ve always been passionate about relationships, so when a customer approached me to create a better burrito, I knew that with our foodservice expertise, we could definitely make an authentic burrito with more filling and less tortilla. To this day, Tres Picosos has continued to grow into a recognizable brand because we listen to our retailers to meet their needs, not ours.

What should our readers know about your business?
Building an authentic, high-quality food product is always the correct answer. Today, many corners are being cut, resulting in customers losing out. I am passionate about celebrating authentic Mexican flavors, spices, and offering better value, while bringing a fiesta-like taste to every bite. ¡Es muy importante!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love living in Colorado, so when friends visit, I don’t hold back showcasing the very best of our state. Colorado is truly a melting pot of vibrant cultures and transplants, ensuring that there is something for everyone here. The Goldfinch on South Broadway would be a stop for the shareable bites and craft cocktails. It has the right amount of vibe, being both cool and comfortable. Next, I would stop in Tom’s Watch Bar at McGregor Square for the slow-braised birria tacos – yum! Later, I would pack a mouth-watering picnic and head to the City Park Jazz Concert on a Sunday night. I almost never miss a concert. It is free, and the people watching is so much fun, from romantic dates to families representing many generations. It is Colorado at its best. Finally, a day isn’t complete for me until I’m dancing to some Mariachi music. I would take my friend to Mariachi Sol de Mi Tierra and then perhaps watch the dancers at Grupo Huitzilopochtli Danza Azteca and Ballet Folklorico Patria Mexicana Performance. I would end the day at Salt Water Social or Mezcal off of Colfax and hope that my friend enjoyed our fiesta in Colorado as much as I know I did.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people who have contributed to the success of the Tres Picosos business today, from my family to key partners, including Polidori Sausage, Tony P’s Bar and Pizzeria, Safeway, Circle K stores, Philosophy Communication, and many, many more. I am incredibly grateful to all the people who have helped lift the company and supported me during the challenges of entrepreneurship. I am speechless when I think about all of the abuelas who have come forward to help make Tres Picosos a success. I know that I would not be here without their constant support and championing of my woman-owned business.
