We had the good fortune of connecting with Janelle Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a Human Design reader; I read charts for a living! When I first became interested in Human Design in 2019, I eagerly read for all of my family and friends. This turned into ‘That was so great, can I venmo you some money?’ I started casually charging for my services, and that worked for awhile. The idea of a business was never something i formally pursued, it just happened over time. It’s a real boost to the self esteem when someone is willing to pay for your service!

I also knew I had to stay true to my Design, which meant scheduling things loosely and paying attention to my energy levels day-to-day. This is a bit of what i wish to impart on my clients: you daily structure is unique to you; embrace it!
Creating a website overwhelmed me a bit, (I am NOT tech savvy!) but I kept it simple and launched September 2020. I think that’s when first I started thinking of myself as a business owner. Well, then and tax time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a human design reader, I get to work one on one with clients, guiding them down their unique path. I believe my compassion, awareness, and intuition make me the profound reader that I am. It is definitely niche, so building an audience has been a series of trial and error! My advice for others in unique markets: Share what you love no matter if you make money from it or not. You WILL gain something from the experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m kind of a homebody, but I love a good cup of coffee from DIRT Coffee Bar in downtown Littleton, or maybe breakfast at any of the Snooze locations. There’s some great walking trails around too, but a trip to the mountains would definitely be in order! Nothing crazy, maybe Morrison or Evergreen. You don’t have to travel far for beautiful views. Cherry Creek Dog Park is huge (125 acres!) and a really fun experience for pups and humans.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Sean has been a huge support to me in my business. He is my tech guy and my biggest cheerleader.
