We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaqueline Yamilex Riestra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaqueline Yamilex, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Healthy skin is reachable for anyone! Growing up with acne and having it crush my self-esteem during school, made me try everything & I mean literally any product you could think of. With little to no improvement on my skin; I started feeling discouraged and thinking healthy skin was out of my reach. Then, I bumped into a video on YouTube from an aesthetician. That’s when I realized, there’s skincare professionals that are dedicated to helping our skin glow and meet our goals. This drove me to go to esthetics school. After graduating, my pursuit was to make others feel healthy skin is reachable to them. I provided skin consultations for free and still do; this allowed me to analyze an individuals skin & recommend home care & facial treatments. Some clients aren’t able to afford facial treatments which was my case growing up. So I always remind my beautiful clients, that home care is key to achieve and maintain healthy skin. Facial treatments work to treat and correct skin conditions and are a preventative measure. So i always suggest to prioritize home care first. I then recommend the main products necessary to start their skincare journey.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I went solo as an aesthetician in 2021 and focused on corrective result driven treatments. I love learning new crafts, so I added lash extensions and brow lamination to my menu aside from facial treatments. Although, my main focus is skincare. I love connecting with my clients and ensuring I understand their concerns on their skin, and educating them on understanding how skin works. My small business is turning 2 years this year & Im super grateful to love my job everyday. Going solo as an aesthetician, specially during the pandemic, was honestly such a huge learning experience. I learned failures can become virtues, by learning to understand what had me fail, what choices were made, how did it shape my personality, & how did it affect my goals. I had to investigate in order to deliver the best service and products to my clients. This required a huge amount of time and dedication to not give up and continue pushing myself to do more for myself and my business. I attended extra course classes to educate myself and stay up to date on new techniques. I learned that this industry is a never ending experience so I had to stop being so harsh on myself and applaud my small milestones. Something I always remind myself, is that I’m the one I’m in competition with on the daily, no other estheticians. I have to work hard in order to continue outgrowing myself and not listen to my own negative feelings of giving up. So I would say, it’s not easy but it’s possible to grow a small business by believing in yourself and being humble enough to accept failures, that’ll make us be who we are in the present.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh Colorado! Such a beautiful state with many amazing destinations. I would say, growing up here has been rewarding in many ways. The mountains are captivating; the city brings excitement. If my friend visited, I would first suggest to get breakfast at blue bird cafe & try the kale refresher & classic breakfast. I would take them to Carter Lake, the lake is beautiful & brings the opportunity to camp nearby and enjoy a fresh getaway. I would also take them to Beltrans Market to eat a yummy posole. I also can’t forget about La Flor Michoacana; there’s a variety of sweets and treats.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe it’s important to acknowledge and remember those who supported you from the start. My family played a huge role in shaping me into a successful aesthetician. My parents never pushed me back to give up my dream of becoming an aesthetician even though they didn’t know what an aesthetician was. In fact, esthetics was not as popular as it is today. My family proportioned me with emotional, financial and moral support to build my small business. Apart from them, my friends supported me by becoming my first clients & giving me constructive criticism on how to better my craft. I’m grateful I was surrounded by people that valued me as an individual, saw my future potential & helped me grow. I would also like to shoutout @chiquis_empire_sweets for customized sweets! 🤍 & @saenz_photography1 has amazing skills for photography; personal & business.
