Meet Jayla Nicole | Owner and Founder of True Piscean Wear

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayla Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayla, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Discipline is everything and it took years to really narrow down, I constantly have to remind myself that it’s not about how I feel or what I feel like doing, you have to keep working towards your goals. You don’t have to give 100% everyday but you have to remain disciplined.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is True Piscean Wear, a Denver local lingerie and swimwear boutique. Our customer service, product quality, and customization offerings are what sets us apart from others. I am currently a fashion student at CSU, and I am extremely excited to start applying my skills in textile design, draping, and general design to my company. I am currently working on transitioning my company over to a ready to wear, custom clothing collection with 2-3 seasons per year. I got here today by being consistent, persevering, being open and flexible, and networking. One of my largest hurdles I would say was COVID, and now a new hurdle that I am anticipating are tariffs. During COVID, I transitioned into more affordable and sustainable means to create clothing (upcycling.) In preparation of tariffs, I am researching fabrics from the US and upping my skillset so that my company no longer relies on international vendors.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A perfect day in Denver would be spent at the Denver Art Museum, then walk over to Maggiano’s at 16th street mall for an early dinner/late lunch, and later in the evening, go grab a drink and hit the arcade or catch a movie at the pavilions. Another spot that holds my heart in Denver is Wash Park, you can have a picnic, workout, shop at pop ups, and/or play games outdoors and meet new people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I always like to shout out Lawrence and Larimer (JC Chapman) for getting me into fashion and keeping me out of (some) trouble in high school! I also like to thank my mentor Dorne Adams for reaching out to me when I was 18 and supporting me, my brand, and my ideas since day one.
