We had the good fortune of connecting with JD Sisneros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JD, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursed being an artist professionally because art is something I’ve always done, It is truely my passion. Since the begining of elementary school, I remeber having a knack to draw. I would bury my face in my notebooks and fill them with characters and scenes from my imagination. Doing art, either for myself or a commission, gives me release. When I create it just feels right. And it is something that I have to do or I start to feel obstructed.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart from all the other artists is me. I am my brand. I am approached for my art because I try to make things pop and be vibrant. I am excited about how my art career evoloves constantly. I get pulled in all sorts of differnet directions all of the time, and I just ride the wave. I am constantly learning from it, which is the way it should be I think.

Getting where I am today took dedication. Waking up everyday with the midset that this is what I’m doing. The work and personal life balance is always a challenge. So, it’s something that I have to try and be aware of.

There are so many lessons learned from being a freelance artist. Figuring out what you are worth and how to do business with people are huge lessons that I am still learning from. When creating pieces, I pick up new techniques and figure out better ways to execute my art. Repetition is how I hone my skill.

I just want to create my art and put it out there. There are so many applicaitons in this industry, and it opens so many doors. The excitement is not knowing where the next project will lead.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fun things for me include getting outdoors. Going fishing and camping with my family. I know of some spots in northern Colorado that I’ve been going to since high school. Getting outside with the family is the best. If I could take a break for a week I would definitly go hang out in the woods. Cooking, fishing, and hiking. Getting away from the all the noise we are surrounded by and unplugging from it all.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out to my friends and family who have encouraged me throughout the years by either having me fill their walls with my art, or helping spread the word of what I do. And of course my wife for giving me the time and space needed to create. And letting me use all the walls in our house to showcase my work.
