We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Frederick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Putting yourself and your work out there for the world to see can be truly terrifying. However, it’s a risk that everyone working in creative industry is forced to take every single day. In my personal life, especially when I was younger, I was never a big risk taker. I would always be the kind of person to choose the safer option, primarily due to fear of the repercussions. By the time I began working in the creative field, this low risk mind set quickly became a hindrance. I was afraid to put my work out there for people because I was terrified what they might think or say. After so long of holding myself back, I had to stop and ask myself, was this risk worth sacrificing my dreams over? And of course it wasn’t. So, fear and all I dove in, and it wasn’t as scary as I anticipated. My biggest fear was that not everyone would like my work, and they didn’t, and it surprisingly felt totally fine. Since then I have tried to view risk differently in my life, although the stakes can be high, so can the reward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been expressing myself through art as long as I can remember. It has always felt like my safe space and where I am meant to be in life. With that being said, it sure hasn’t been easy. The personal problem I have always experienced is that I am what you may call a jack of all traits, I know how to do so much but I am not particularly talented in anything specific. This always felt like a disadvantage to me, that was until fairly recently. When the rise of short form video became the highest demand in social media, I realized I could use this tool to showcase my different skills or interests and be able to capitalize. Almost as if all of my work before might have been interesting to people, I just didn’t have a way to show them before.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many amazing things to do in the city. One of my favorite day trips would be to start your morning at Dozens for a delicious breakfast, next a tour of the Byers-Evan’s house. Lunch at The Ponti and an afternoon at the Denver Art Museum. Some of my other favorite places to eat would be Yazoo BBQ, pizza at The Walnut Room, and slice works . When it comes to just hanging out I love Cheeseman park and the botanic gardens, both beautiful and also close to Lick’s Ice Cream which is a family favorite in my family.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my fiancé Andrew and our kitties, all of their unconditional love and support is what keeps me going.
