Meet Brooke Hill | Owner of Brook E Boutique

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My initial response to being a Risk Taker would be no, but looking at my life I know I have it in me. I was very much a risk taker when I was in my early 20’s. I wanted to try and experience everything. After having kids at 28 and 30, my risk taking days were over, or so I thought. When I became a mom, my whole world became about taking care of these 2 precious little boys. However sometimes in life, no matter the risk, you know that you are meant to do something. 5 years ago I became a Living Kidney Donor. My brother-in-law needed a kidney and I had this feeling take over me, that it was supposed to be me that needed to donate to him. It was scary, but I knew it was what I wanted to do. Sometimes the biggest risks have the biggest reward, and this was one of them. I am able to watch my brother in law go from being super sick, to living a fairly normal and healthy life for the past almost 5 years. Even though it still is difficult for me to take risks, I try to push myself to be uncomfortable, because I know I have it in me. I started my online boutique almost 2 years ago. I knew nothing about owning a boutique, but I have a love of clothing. Clothing that makes people feel confident. I hate the risk of failing, and I still am constantly learning about this business and myself. But I have learned that is what life should be, to always be learning and trying new things or you will always be in the same place and never grow. ‘
What should our readers know about your business?
I have owned my online boutique for 2 years. I try to find unique and quality clothing, bags and jewelry that isn’t too pricey and that makes you feel uniquely you. Most of the jewelry I buy is handmade in the USA by Women Owned Companies. I buy items that I love and want to wear. I listen to my customers and search for items they want to see in my store too. I love when a someone comments that they love my style, or get excited when an item comes in that they love. When a customer receives their order in the mail and messages me that they “LOVE it!”. It seriously makes my day and makes me excited to search out more fun and unique items they can buy. My only job in retail was when I was 16 and I worked for a sporting goods store as the cashier, so I really had no experience. But I try to live by what I tell my boys, “if you make a mistake, make sure you learn from it, and move on”. I’m slowly growing and learning lessons as I go.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting and I wanted to show them a great time in our area, first I would plan a trip up the Manitou Incline. Its super challenging, but it is super fun and you feel such an amazing feat when you are done. The hike down is beautiful and such a great time to talk and catch up in nature. To eat I would take them to my families favorite, my dad has been taking me there since I was a little girl, Margo’s Chicago Hot Dogs near Manitou. Also, Fargo’s is a great and unique place to take visitors for great Pizza and an amazing salad bar. Colorado Springs is beautiful. Lots a great hiking spots. We have Garden of the Gods, or drive up Pikes Peak. If they are ambitious, we can hike the up the Peak.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big Shoutout to my husband, Jason, who always pushes me to do things outside my comfort zone. And my sister who said, “you could so do this” when we would frequent small boutiques.
