Meet Jenna Wagner | Nursery Decor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Wagner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, my husband and I decided we didn’t want to know gender until the birth. We were considering nursery themes and decided on “National Parks.” As part of the theme, I wanted a sequoia tree growth chart. When I couldn’t find what I wanted online, I asked my brother (who is handy) to make it. While he never said he wouldn’t, it never got done so then I thought, “I could probably just make my own.” I got a quick tutorial on how to use a jigsaw from my husband and after we designed what we wanted, I started cutting. After I was done I realized that I didn’t have to wait for other people to make things for me or fix things; I could do stuff on my own! Then you could say it turned into a bit of an obsession and because of the power of social media, I started offering my services to my friends who mentioned it to their friends. While I could never live on the income generated by the growth charts, I enjoy making them so much that view it more as a hobby than an actual “business”!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I started looking at growth charts online, everything was made with Cricuts and other programmable machines. I am different in that I design and cut each growth chart specific to the theme. Nothing is pre-made and it’s all made by hand. The benefit is that each creation is unique. The downside is that they take more time than something more mass produced and they are more expensive. However, the people who have purchased one of my growth charts are all so thankful for the attention to detail and the personalization
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With kids, my husband and I don’t get out much and when we do it’s generally with them! But one of our favorite family spots is Georgetown Railroad. We love getting out of the city!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My entire journey started when I found out I was having a child and since my business/hobby is all about children, I’ll dedicate this to my family: My incredible husband, Jesse, and my kids, Lily (4), Max (2) and Daisy (2).
