Meet Jennie Bjorem | Owner, Bjorem Speech Publications & Speech-Language Pathologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Bjorem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Bjorem Speech® is the genuine connection we’ve built with our community. Listening to the voices of speech pathologists, educators, and parents has been key to understanding what’s truly needed in the field. By staying connected and in tune with their challenges and goals, we’re able to create educational materials that are functional, inclusive, and diverse—tools that are not only relevant but practical for real-world use.

This connection extends beyond product development. We’re committed to engaging with our community through various channels—whether it’s speaking at conferences around the world, attending the Bjorem Speech SLP Cruise, or hosting open houses at our Castle Rock office. These interactions fuel collaboration and inspire the resources we create. By partnering with other professionals and supporting universities that are training the next generation of SLPs, we ensure we’re bringing others up with us and contributing to the growth of the field.

Collaboration has been vital to our journey. By working alongside experts and professionals in speech pathology and related fields, we stay up-to-date with the latest research and methods, making sure that everything we produce truly reflects the needs of the professionals we serve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to think of my work as a blend of art and science. At Bjorem Speech®, we create educational tools that are designed to connect with both the child and the professional using them. What sets us apart is our dedication to making resources that are not only functional but also inclusive and diverse. We aim to fill gaps in the speech and language world by offering materials that resonate with all learners, and I’m most proud of how our products make a real impact in the field. Hearing from therapists and educators about the difference our tools make in their sessions—it’s what keeps me going.

My journey to where I am today has been anything but easy. It’s been filled with risks, challenges, and countless learning curves. In the beginning, stepping out of my comfort zone to create something new was intimidating. I had to learn everything from product development to running a business, and at times it felt overwhelming. But I’ve always been surrounded by a supportive community, who believed in me and gave me the confidence to move forward. Their encouragement, along with a lot of grit and perseverance, has helped me overcome those hurdles.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of listening—listening to your community, your customers, and your team. Our products are successful because they are built from feedback and real-world needs. It’s also about collaboration—whether it’s working with experts in the field or listening to speech therapists and educators on the ground, those voices shape our brand.

What I want the world to know about Bjorem Speech® is that we’re more than just a product line. We’re committed to making a difference in the lives of children and professionals alike, creating tools that help bridge the gap between challenges and success in speech and language development. It’s not just about building a company, it’s about building a community that grows together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Castle Rock, Colorado, I’d make sure they got the full experience of what makes this area so special. We’d kick things off with a stroll through downtown Castle Rock, where our corporate office is located—it’s such a charming place that brings me joy every day. For happy hour, we’d head straight to Dos Santos for a Tajin-rimmed Paloma—seriously, the best way to wind down after a day of exploring.

Next, we’d lace up our hiking boots for a trek up Devil’s Head. The views are breathtaking, and the hike is perfect for soaking up the natural beauty Colorado offers. After that, no trip to the area is complete without catching a concert at Red Rocks—the acoustics and atmosphere there are like nothing else. We’d also make time for some stand-up paddle boarding at Chatfield; it’s a peaceful escape and a great way to cool off in the summer.

To round out the week, we’d venture four hours south to Del Norte, my favorite little mountain town. We’d spend a couple of nights enjoying the stillness, watching the stars in the clear night sky, and floating down the Rio Grande. It’s the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

Castle Rock and its surrounding areas have so much to offer, from incredible food and drinks to stunning hikes and unbeatable live music experiences. It’s a place where nature, community, and fun come together, and I’d want my best friend to feel all of that in just one week!

This shoutout goes to Ann Kirkland, SLP, and Andrea Onnen, SLP—two amazing women who believed in me from the very beginning. Their encouragement and unwavering support gave me the push I needed to take the leap and publish Bjorem Speech Sound Cues back in 2017.

I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible authors who have trusted us to bring their ideas to life. Your creativity and expertise have not only made an impact in the world of education and speech pathology, but you’ve also inspired our entire team.
