We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Essex and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the travel industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is the significant resurgence and high demand for travel advisors. Contrary to the outdated notion that our profession is dying due to the rise of online booking platforms, the reality is quite the opposite. In today’s complex travel landscape, personalized service and expert advice have become more valuable than ever.
Travelers are seeking unique, customized experiences and often require assistance navigating the myriad of options, restrictions, and logistics. This is where travel advisors shine. We offer insider knowledge, access to exclusive deals, and the ability to troubleshoot and provide support before, during, and after a trip. Our expertise not only saves clients time and stress but also enhances their overall travel experience.
The increased demand for tailored itineraries, seamless travel planning, and expert insights into destinations has led to a renaissance in the travel advisor profession. As a result, our industry is thriving, proving that personal touch and professional guidance are irreplaceable in creating memorable and hassle-free travel experiences.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

With over 2 decades in the hospitality industry I have a deep love of exceeding my clients expectations. There’s nothing better than creating experiences and memories that they will cherish forever.
The journey to where I am today was far from easy, but such is the nature of any meaningful endeavor. After closing my first business, a micro bakery, after five years, I found myself feeling lost and uncertain about the future. In a bid to avoid stagnation, I hastily embarked on a new business venture, driven by the fear of inactivity. Unfortunately, this venture turned out to be a complete failure, leaving me devastated.
During a yoga retreat, I encountered an Oprah quote that resonated deeply with me: “When you don’t know what to do, get silent.” Embracing this advice, I decided to stop pushing and forcing outcomes, allowing myself to be still and reflective.
After five months of introspection, clarity began to emerge. I realized my true passions lay in entrepreneurship, travel, and hospitality. It was during this time that I discovered Fora through social media ads. Intrigued, I attended an informational meeting and signed up on the spot.
Leveraging the client base from my bakery business has been instrumental in building my travel advisory business. The support of my former clients has been incredible, as they now turn to me for guidance in their travels.
I am profoundly grateful for this journey and the unwavering support of my clients.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love taking out of town guests to Steamboat Springs, my favorite mountain getaway.
We’d start our adventure by checking into our hotel and grabbing a coffee at the cozy Off the Beaten Path Bookstore and Coffeehouse. For lunch, head to Salt & Lime for modern Mexican cuisine before exploring the charming downtown area, visiting local shops, galleries, and the Tread of Pioneers Museum to learn about the local history and culture. On Friday evening we’d watch the rodeo (a Steamboat must) then enjoy a delicious steak dinner at E3 Chophouse, located by the Yampa River, and take a peaceful evening walk along the Yampa River Core Trail.
Hiking at Fish Creek Falls is a must then post breakfast and mimosas at Winona’s Restaurant. Late afternoon soak at Strawberry Hot Springs to soothe your achy muscles. Dinner at The Laundry, with its unique menu and emphasis on local ingredients,
The next day we’d take a gondola ride at Steamboat Ski Resort, where you can enjoy panoramic views and potential summer activities like mountain biking or hiking, or skiing in the winter. Dinner at Cafe Diva is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a profound debt of gratitude to numerous individuals who have been instrumental in my career within the hospitality industry and now in my journey as a travel advisor.
Foremost, the team and community at Fora have provided unparalleled support, comprehensive training, and unwavering encouragement since the inception of my journey. Being part of this company feels so right, and I take immense pride in my part of the growing team.
My experiences working in premier hotels, Michelin rated restaurants, and under renowned chefs and exemplary leadership teams have been invaluable. These opportunities have shaped my professional and personal growth, for which I am eternally grateful.
