Meet Jennifer Robertson | Salon Suite Owner & Hair Stylist & Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Robertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
Honestly, the most difficult decision I have ever had to make was starting my own business. I was a single mom of 3 kids out there doing my thing trying survive. I had just lost my job, my only income, which I believe was a huge blessing. Believe it or not. I started looking into opening my own salon. I knew it was going to be a good thing for my family, and that it was going to be hard work but I could not fail, I had my family. The amount of stress I felt was crazy. I found the perfect location, and I had to wait for the space to be built, so I had time. However, in the meantime, I had no job and was living on unemployment. I was saving for the business so my kids and I had to make sacrifices. I finally opened the doors in February 2018. All the while, working another job just to stay a float. It was a stressful time in my life for my family and myself. It truly was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. Now I am more than happy I made the decision to open my own business and work for myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional in the art of hair. I specialize in color and Balayage. I believe my understanding of color theory and knowledge of hair allows me to understand what my clients are looking and asking for. I also believe that everyone’s time is valuable. That is why I use a 10 minute color. This allows my clients to still achieve the looks that they want with out siting in the salon all day. I can usually get a Balayage, cut and style done in 2 hours. It free’s up my clients day and it opens up my own to service more clientele. I am also a proud member of the Megix Crew. I was their spotlight stylist of the month in October of 2021. My goal is to begin teaching more classes and helping other stylist by sharing my story and experiences. Achieving your dreams is never easy but you have to be willing to put the time, blood, sweat and tears into hitting them. I knew what I wanted and I created a goal map to get there. I learned some lessons along the way. But I believe that they only made me stronger and a better business owner in the end.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge fan of Idaho Springs. I love the old town feel. I also love the fact that its not to far away from us. When we go there it is a must that we go to Beau Jo’s pizza. Best mountain pies around. Not only is the main part of town fun, I am a fan of old cemeteries. I love the history behind them. And Idaho Springs has a very unique cemetery, check it out the next time you visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are more than a lot of people who have supported me with love and encouragement during this process. Some, may not even know that their words meant so much to me. Without my clients I also wouldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for you. I also would like to take a moment to say thank you my best friend. She is not only my best friend but she was my go to person. I would bounce ideas or questions off of her, and she would be right there for me. She always gave me words of encouragement when I felt like I wasn’t going to make it. I could never repay her for all that she has done to support me. Finally, my kids. Thank you for riding this crazy ride with me. You are my reason for fighting and pushing through. I hope that in being a witness to this journey, you see that no matter what the situation, or what obstacles you face in life, that with hard work and dedication you can accomplish your goals and dreams. Never give up and continue to strive forward. I love you kids.
