We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Samuel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be that I always strive for excellence. I excelled through hard work, discipline, and focus and I get that from my family who immigrated to the U.S. (San Francisco) in the 70s. I have had enough failures but a lot more highs in order to achieve excellence. That is why my expectation for my family and people I love is to be excellent in all they do. When you strive for it, at least the journey and the experience was worthwhile than just mediocre.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bodies By Perseverance is an exclusive personal training gym where we create a unique fitness experience. We get excited when clients improve physically, mentally, and they develop a passion for long term health and training. The fitness industry is a $32.5 billion dollar industry that continues to grow, so to stay in the forefront and market our value and unique service is on-going and keeps us on our toes. The challenges we face is the number of franchises popping up and the industry getting so saturated that it confuses the client and their real needs are. Our product and service is unique because we have experienced, professional, and reputable trainers that you can’t teach from a text or get a certification. How we differentiate ourselves is through our various and specific training techniques such as muscle confusion and metabolic conditioning, utilizing weights and different modalities that people see results. Our story comes from home grown people that truly started from ground zero. After the NFL leagues and going into corporate, Courtney and I cashed in our 401Ks to start our business since 2003. Not only do we feel that Bodies By Perseverance is special, it is a community place where people have connected for over 18 years. We are also a community that gives back to communities, such as the Asian, Filipino and Black communities where I tears and heart lie.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to the Five Points for sure! I love places like Lincoln Hills or Red Rocks to look at the beautiful formations and sights of Colorado. The Welton street corridor is a growing area with so much history, music, restaurants, and businesses that you can’t find anywhere else. I would stop through Cherry Creek for more dining and shopping. Lastly, I would retreat at Larimer street and sit on the bench and people watch and enjoy a slice of spring fling cake from The Farmer’s Market.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and organizations to thank such as the people at Bodies By Perseverance, it is much more than a gym, it’s a community. I am a part of a very special group of women comprised of warriors in the workplace and community called the Fly Ladies, without their support and their level excellence, I wouldn’t have accomplished so much in the last few years. My husband and business partner who is salt of the earth. He always has my back no matter my decision, what I want to do or become. “No matter what, Samuel’s always win” is our mantra.
