We had the good fortune of connecting with Jericha Shandace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jericha, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I honestly never thought modeling would become a creative career for me but, looking back since a kid I have always been photogenic and have had a passion for fashion but never thought of being a model due to insecurities. A designer reached out to me asking if I would be interested in being a model for his fashion show, I had absolutely no experience in modeling besides my “photo-shoots” with my little sister when we were kids so I was nervous but wanted to try something new especially since it was a few months into my postpartum. The moment I got on the stage it felt natural! I loved showcasing the work of a local designer and makeup artist. From that show I got exposure and connections and began my modeling career. I would say the biggest thing that pursued me was the self-confidence I gained from being in front of the camera and the supportive crowds. Hearing the crowd cheer for you as you walk down the runway is always heart-warming especially since I struggled with insecurities throughout my childhood. I am often told that I could make it a long way so I finally decided to listen and take modeling serious and now I have this amazing opportunity to be featured in this magazine so it is paying off so far!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been modeling for 2 years now. I am most proud of the exposure and confidence I have gained from modeling. I have gotten amazing opportunities and would say I have gotten to make money in the easiest way which is by being me, having fun and taking pictures. My motivation and determination got me where I am today; I have not gotten chosen for every opportunity, in which rejection allowed me to humble myself and to take the time to practice, accept constructive criticism and keep pushing forward to be better. A huge lesson I have learned is that success never comes easy, the challenges are what builds and makes you and how you get through them is all that matters. I just want the world to know that I am a genuine soul always looking to collaborate and expand my modeling career!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the mountains for the first few days a nice cabin trip with a stop at the hot springs.
After a few days as we head back down we would stop in Black Hawk and experience the gambling atmosphere as well as the food in the casinos.
I then would head out to Colorado Springs and spend a few days up there maybe going horse back riding trying different foods and zip lining
In the last few days on the weekend I would end the trip with going downtown to ride scooters, go to the clubs, go to bars, karaoke, movies, basketball games

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
