We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Loryn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess, what do you attribute your success to?
Among the abundant events to shape my life and still resignate with me today, loosing my mother has surpassed every single event to date. “Growing” up my mother would always ask me to sing for her. She’d ask me when I planned to use my voice. I feel even more motivated to share my gift with as many people as possible. Not only because it’s my passion but because she lives on through every note I sing!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, it’s easy to get lost in the trends. To purposely set myself apart I never go against my individuality, those things that make me unique. I will remain independent before I ever shape myself to “fit” someone else’s perception of me or my music. Furthermore, although my sound pays homage to many greats of the 90’s r&b era, I do not conform to one genre. I identify with my art & the music I make as fluid & free.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A tour in Colorado would have to start at Rocky Mountain National Park. A nice trail leading up to a picture perfect scenery. A manicure & pedicure at West 29th Salon. A glass of Pinot noir on the rooftop of 54Thirty. Taking in a few sights at night in peaks lounge. A caddy down market street. Brunch at Grind kitchen. Ending the trip with dinner at El Five followed by a night cap at the Crimson room.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I undoubtedly accredit my success to not only my mother but also my twin brother. He has remained in my corner. Seeing so much more in me at time than I did in myself. No matter how high the stakes are, he always reminds me of how far I’ve come & that in return fuels my ambition to be greater with every passing day!
