We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessa Trefethen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessa, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is a huge part of any successful career. While some may be calculated risks, I believe that stepping into the unknown can bring more rewards. Joining the beauty industry was a risk. I had never considered myself very artistic or creative and I was nervous that I wouldn’t “fit in”. Starting my career in a brand new salon without a clientele I would consider a huge risk. The first couple of years of business are the most intense. The fear of wondering if the salon would be sustainable, what my future looked like within this building, and if I had made the right choice. Now as a co-owner of this salon, I can absolutely confirm it was the right choice! Becoming a traveling stylist was a dream that became a risk as well. I have had the honor of working backstage at NYFW and DFW while also shooting editorial work with the Beauty Underground in Denver as well as Madrid. The excitement backstage is intoxicating and being able to collaborate with designers to help create their vision has been an eye-opening experience. Having to step away from full time behind the chair to pursue these dreams was not an easy process. 9 years later I can tell you this, if it wasn’t for taking those risks and following my intuition I wouldn’t be here sharing my story with you. I would risk it all again and I am forever grateful for the people who provided those opportunities for me to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My favorite question to be asked it how did you get where you are today? The truth is… dedication, faith, and hard work physically and spiritually 🙏🏼 Working hard even when it’s challenging, to persevere even when those closest to you doubt you and your dreams. I have learned so much in one lifetime and I have no intention of stopping now. Trust your inner self, know that it’s okay to take chances and risks. The hard times shape you as a person and striving for perfection is an endless battle. Share what you know and love with those around you. Building a team of support and creative talent around you will only help further your career. Your definition of success is yours alone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe the entire Prodigy Salon team and ownership deserve to celebrate their victories! Our whole vision is team work and striving to make a difference in the lives we touch. The people who have worked with Prodigy have shaped a huge part of what allows me to be successful. I have learned from each of them and their drive and passion pushes me to pursue greater victories for the entire Prodigy tribe.
