We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Dory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how do you think about risk?
Be brave. Be present. Be all in.

Without risk, without courage to face the unknown we will never get to experience our fullest potential, and for me, not taking a risk, not seeing what could be is the greatest risk of all. When we find ourselves paralyzed in fear to take a risk we aren’t being present, we are living in the past, in the future, or have even adopted and embodied other people perceptions or experiences as our own. We need to be careful with fear, because fear will keep your entrepreneurial spirit caged. As a mother and business owner, I must navigate my home-life and career with balance, and understand the calculated risk at hand. I want to show my children that risk can be amazing! Yes, scary, but you never know what you can achieve until you try, and as a woman in the cannabis industry I want to help carve a path for women in this business, to normalize it, and to keep it elegant. Entering the cannabis business, growing industrial hemp, and launching a USDA organic certified CBD line was absolutely a risk especially as pioneers in this evolving industry, It has been a rollercoaster from the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill to now. The risk has been humbling and rewarding. However the outcome of launching a high quality, clean and transparent organic CBD line has been worth every trial and tribulation, and all the risk. The best advice I was ever given before jumping into a venture was this— ‘Think about the worst possible outcome one time, understand it, and you move on.’ Don’t entertain it, be logical, but then think of the best possible outcome, and create your business from that space; space of opportunity and love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
FoCo Organics was established in 2018, and it took a lot of ebb and flow to get to where we are today. My husband and I entered the industrial hemp business seeking to grow and provide the industry with clean and certified organic CBD oil. Our inspiration stemmed from a place of need with my ongoing Lupus battle, please visit www.focoorganics.com to learn more about our silver-lining. We quickly realized, with the encouragement of my Doctor, how amazing the benefits of this plant was and vital to my personal healing. From then on we wanted to be on the front lines growing and serving the community. We started as a B2B wholesale oil company, and by Spring of 2020, we decided to launch ourselves into creating our very own brand admist the start of the 2020 pandemic. This was an absolute risk, but we felt we would find our place in the market. We brought on our good friends, and entrepreneurs; Noah T. Kaufman, MD, and Jordan J. Kaufman. Uncertainty is always the number one fear we must overcome as new business owners, especially during these unprecedented times for our world. I would say we are in the same boat as many  2020 entrepreneurs, but the best we can do is take a deep breath, have faith, and keep our noses to the grinding wheel. Our brand is built on the foundation of authenticity, transparency, and integrity. We are honest from ‘Seed to Shelf,’ and honor the USDA organic certified practices from farming to formulating to bottle. FoCo Organics works with cGMP and USDA Organic certified facilities to create our products ensuring we put our consumers’ wellbeing first. We carry full autonomy over our plants which ensures the highest of quality end result . We do not source oil from open market, and promise that no plant goes unseen or uncared for throughout our growing cycles.

FoCo Organics Mission: Redesigning wellness with you in mind. We keep you as our highest priority when growing, designing, and crafting our product line. We promise true transparency, simple and pure ingredients, and delicious flavor behind every drop. We stand behind our products, because we stand behind you. ‘Little, but mighty drops.’

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“If I have seen a little further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Sir Isaac Newton.

I am deeply moved in gratitude for the love and support of those who have inspired, encouraged, taught me and held me up when I couldn’t stand on my own two legs. I have been blessed with many mentors, advisors, and encouragement throughout this journey. I would love to say a thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to Ian Dory; my husband, advisor, and best-friend. Ian has been there from the start designing and creating our dreams together. He helped me embrace my own entrepreneurial spirit and has always been my motivation and rock, to the core. He has helped me stand strong in my battle with lupus, balance work and home life, and bring to fruition the dream of our company, FoCo Organics. For that I am deeply grateful. My mother, Irene Charvet, has also been a support net, teaching me through her own struggles and courage how to keep pressing forward, how to keep working even through the most trying of times. It is because of her love, and the lineage of women in my family that have given me their support and courage to face life’s challenges with open arms.
