We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Kreger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was always into the creative realms. Early on in grade school I wanted to be a fashion designer. My mom used to let me cut up the bright orange and green yarn knit doilies on our end tables to make skirt’s. Fast forward to high school I had one person tell me I was good at something and she offered to write me a letter of recommendation for college. She was an interior designer teaching a graphic design class.
I thought, wow, I’m good at something. And the story wrote itself from there.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a designer for financial institutions and the cannabis industry, people don’t quite see the correlation between the two areas. I’d say reach out and let’s have a chat! You’ll understand the similarities when we are done. Most privately owned business clients don’t realize the importance of brand recognition in their spaces and how the layout affects or reflects the fundamentals of the business model. What sets me apart is that I intimately understand not only design but the business and psychology of design.
Offering advice:
I’ve had challenges, as most women in the industry do, balancing children and career. Reach out to family for support. Don’t forget your network and to schedule fireside chats with friends who are moms for advice and encouragement.
What gets me through my challenges personally and professionally, much like trail running or any other endurance activity. If you fall, get back up and go, don’t allow yourself to quit when you feel strain. Count to ten before you give yourself permission and it’ll get you that much further each time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, they’d be into outdoor activities like myself. We’d hit the trails, go kayaking to hot springs, then a hidden speakeasy at the end of the day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize my college instructors for my fundamental foundation in interior design and Louise Jones at Eastern Michigan University for overseeing my Thesis and for her guidance during the process. Also, to the one person in High school that serendipitously came in my life and gave me encouragement to go to college. You are the root of my success by the little seed planted.
To my mom, the ultimate creative who always accepted my quirks, encouraged me and let me create while destroying things around the house.
