We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Whenever the doubt of “no I can’t” begins to rise, may the confidence of “yes I can” be invited instead. -Arielle Estoria
Coming from an established career in physical therapy, deciding to start my own photography business is probably one of the scariest things I’ve done in my entire life. It was so hard to put myself out there and not be fearful of rejection or failure. This affirmation has really helped me quiet my mind in times of doubt and focus on what I have accomplished thus far and what I know I will continue to accomplish in this business!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think the biggest thing that I am proud of this year is that I stepped out on a limb and started this photography business. I have always loved being creative, I used to dance when I was younger but as I got older I didn’t have a great outlet for my creativity. This business has allowed me that space to find my creative spark again. I love being able to come together with my clients and make their vision come to life with my photos. Whether we are running around in the mountains or somewhere down in the city, I want this time for my couples to be fun and carefree!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I definitely feel like I have a few must-visit places! My favorite breakfast spot is Denver Biscuit Company. I love taking friends to Okinawa Japanese Cuisine, they’ve got some of my favorite sushi in the city! I love anything in the RiNo district. First Draft Taproom, Denver Central Market, and Tracks are some of my favorite spots in that area. Union Station is an iconic spot to visit. And probably very random, but I love taking people to Tattered Cover Bookstore!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sister has been my biggest fan since day 1! In everything I set out to do, my sister is always there cheering me on along the way. I remember when I first had the idea to start my own photography business, I thought everyone would think I was crazy. But the second I mentioned it to my sister, she was right there helping me brainstorm! I would not be who I am today without her unyielding support and love.
