We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my photography business in the hopes of capturing and freezing special moments in our lives that we will never be able to get back. I watch my kids growing and I always think, “I never want to forget this” but I found that without photographs, I forget so much! I wanted to capture families and individuals being their authentic selves so that they do not see just a pretty photograph, but they see that moment frozen in time. I want to capture those toothless grins, that new love adoration, and the beautiful chaos that we call life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel that I am most proud of my ability to do what I sought out to do. I really put so much effort into making photo sessions fun so I can get those real personalities in the final product. I overshoot, and over deliver photos because I can not imagine not giving someone all of the sweet moments we capture! Getting where I am today in my photography business definitely has not been easy. My family has been very patient and allowing me to devote so much time to this dream. I have learned that I do need to set limits to how many clients I take on (still working on that!) but I just love it so incredibly much, that it is hard to say no. I feel so honored to get invited into people’s homes and lives to capture these moments that I need to remember to capture my own!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I wouldn’t consider myself to be a huge “city” person, but we would definitely go check out the cool murals in the Rino district, hit up some cute coffee shops, and do a photoshoot at Redrocks of course! I love the Luverne M Johnson park in Lyons for tubing with kids and just hanging out for the day. I am sure we would hike in Boulder and eat at Southern Sun and have a beer at some point and walk Clear Creek in Golden is always my favorite. Taking pictures the whole time of course!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My community and family have been so vital in my success and growth in this business. So many people have trusted me in capturing their memories, knowing I was just starting out, and this allowed me to grow so much in such a short time. I have met a few fellow photographers who “geek out” over photography with me and give my family a break from hearing about my obsession. My good friend Cassie Vock especially shares my passion for capturing moments and how fun editing can be. She is starting her own interior design business as well!
