We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie Suitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Boulder by a pack of amazing women; blood family, foster family, and my friend’s family. The first 16 years of my life were about learning how to adjust to the uncertainty, unplanned, and sometimes not fair events in life. My amazing pack of women made it very clear, make sure to be an independent, strong woman, and do whatever you want to do with your life! So that’s just what I did. That is who I am today. I’m strong, independent, and a minority business owner!! Dreams can come true if you believe.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
BeautyKit Studio is a salon located in the Sunnyside neighborhood in Denver, CO. In our studio, we offer Hair, Nail and Makeup services. BeautyKit Studio also has a wedding hair and makeup team that goes on-location! Our wedding team travels anywhere in the state of Colorado and has capacity for large and small weddings. Our Studio started out as a bridal lounge, but with COVID, and overall business learning hurdles, we had to pivot a few times to get where we are now. It has definitely been a challenge, but we are stronger than ever!! We also have a small boutique that offers all local either and/or, women owned and minority owned clothes and gifts!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, how can I list all of my favorite places in my beautiful city?! -Monkey Barrel, not only is it a great little neighborhood bar, they’re right next to my studio! We can’t wait for more live music to come back here! -Red Rocks of course for concerts…when those come back. -Tamales at Ponchito’s Tortilla Factory -El Chingon Mexican Grill for tacos! -Pinball and all other arcade games at 1UP.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Besides my pack of my women mentors, I have to first do a shoutout to my Fiance’. He has been there from an idea to a finished product. He was there for all the emotions of starting a business. All he needed to say was, “its going to be great!”-and he did, especially when I needed it most. His support during it all has been more than I can ever explain. I would also like to shout out to my friends, family and staff for believing in me! Ashley, my Makeup Artist, has been by my side since buildout, and I cannot even express how blessed I have been to have her by my side! I’m SO grateful for everyone who helped me in even the slightest. Every person was a building block in my success.
