Meet Jesus Ramirez | Photojournalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesus Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesus, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up I was always a creative. I always looked at things in an artistic perspective especially with landscapes and nature. I started off with an old film camera when I was a kid and would take photos of anything I could. Back then it would just be more of just something fun to do , not realizing that later on in life photography would be a passion of mine. It was not until I was 18 years old that I would finally decide that I would want to take my photography seriously. Every time I go out and take photos it always makes me feel peaceful and puts my mind at ease creating digital images and seeing the results. I have made many friends and colleagues during my journey as a photographer which also makes me happy knowing how many doors have opened for me socially. Delivering those final images to a client and them being amazed by my work and creativity is also and amazing feeling. Those moments that I captured will forever be apart of someone’s life and will always be a good memory for them. I’m happy to be able to freeze special moments in peoples life for them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a photographer for 5 years now. I started off photographing landscapes on my hikes and searching for that spot that could make a great photo. Eventually I would turn my attention to taking portraits of friends and I realized I was actually really good at it. Recently I also got into automotive photography and taking photos of cars that I see at car meets and events , which I also realized I was good at. Though the journey to where I am today was not an easy one and I have had many moments where I wanted to put my camera down due to dry spells , I would always get support from close friends and loved ones that made me keep getting back up and fight for my dream. I would get advice from mentors and I would always go out at least once a day and take photos of just about anything I could. Though not every one of those photos would be the best , there would always be that one golden shot that would make me proud. I have learned that with a good support system and a good will and drive to not give up on your dreams , you can accomplish anything. What sets my photography apart from other local photographers is the moody feeling that I try to get across in my edits. They tend to be a little dark but uplifting at the same time. I’m trying to show some of my emotions in all of my photos. Somedays I feel really happy so my edits will be on the uplifting side , as to where on my bad days they are a little more dark and moody. It all really depends on my own mood. There have ben many moments where I felt my work was insignificant compared to others. I would put myself down and not really want to put much effort into my work. Eventually I would realize that no one should compare one self to others but should only compare themselves to their past self. This helps growth and gives you motivation to keep doing what you’re doing. Only you can break your shell and your limits.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado has many attractions that make it the beautiful state we live in. Garden of the gods being one of them. Taking someone there for the first time would be and awesome experience for them I believe. The hikes as well as the views while hiking are some of the best. Not to mention right down the street there is Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs , also very beautiful places. Downtown Colorado Springs also is full of many little shops and locally owned restaurants. I would take a friend to any of the downtown pizza restaurants like The Atomic Cowboy and Bambinos Pizza. Downtown has so much to offer and would make for an awesome place to visit with someone who has never been before.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t say just one person has helped me throughout this journey. I have many friends and family members that have supported me and pushed me to find my potential , as well as not giving up on my dreams. I would not be where I am today with photography if it was not for those people surrounding me and pushing me to do my best. These people have inspired me in my journey and I will always hold them dear in my heart no matter where this goes.
