We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Johanningmeier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want others to know that recovery is possible, and lives are being transformed daily. I’d like to bring awareness to addict to change the stigma. The disease does not discriminate and id like that to be the legacy for those who have lost the battle to addiction. I lost my cousin to this disease, and he has been what has driven me to help others, as I was too sick to help him.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My title is Director of Admission at Mile High Recovery Center, but I get to be so much more. I made a call 8 years ago seeking treatment and it was not easy to navigate. I get to answer that call today from others seeking help. We are dedicated to helping anyone that calls with the quality referrals based on their resources and I get to do it with an incredible team of people. We have sober living homes and I get to manage the best crew of sober living managers. We believe that community is a huge piece of continued success, and we strive to have a ton of fun. Our community has an event every day of the week to bring them together. I have a large community of sports teams that have been a great resource for fellowship in my recovery and I get to do that with a great number of coworkers. I think that it’s a challenging job just because we are dealing with a deadly disease, but we also get to see miracles happen daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lucky Noodle, DP Dough, Bourbon Chicken, Pepper, and many other Colfax Treasures that are blocks away from our houses and treatment center. EddieV’s and 801 Chop Quality Itallian and Odyssey…. I love food! Ball Arena Nuggets game, Folsom for a CU game, Investco for a Broncos game. Catch a Devon Again show. Play some volleyball at Wheel Park, Softball at Olympic Park, Cheeseman Park and City Park and a breathtaking view of the golf course from our sober living home. Colfax is historic and changed so much it is the view from my office and I love that view.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Brice Hancock, Owner CEO of Mile High Recovery Center. I was introduced to Brice in 2017 and started working with Mile High in 2018. I was on fire for recovery, and he was in need of a women’s program director. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with others and I have had the privilege to be a part of thousands of people’s recovery journey while being employed at Mile High. Where I have been able to grow professionally and also honored to call him a friend. Brice has supported the best interest of my daughter and I since. The opportunity has also given me the best support, my co=workers who are recovered, and have like-minded goals has been so important to me professionally and personally. My cousin Ryan Johanningmeier who passed in 2015 when I was in addictive addiction, was the smartest, most athletic and had so much going for him was injured playing football and was prescribed an insane number of drugs, lost his life to this disease and he has been a huge part of why I want to help others. My daughter, who has always been my purpose has turned into an incredible, fearless, kind, stable, responsible and driven person I know has now become my teacher. I have been blessed with the last 8 years to be present and sober in her life.
