Meet Jim Wilcox | Laser Tattoo Removal Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jim Wilcox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We had the idea of offering Laser Tattoo Removal for coverups within the tattoo studio simply because my wife gets a lot of coverup requests and always wants the client to do laser before she works on it. After doing some research we found that it was a very possible thing for us to do so we pursued it.

What should our readers know about your business?
Black Sage Laser is a premier laser tattoo removal studio within Black Sage Tattoo Studio. We offer full laser removal as well as lightening for tattoo coverups. We had this idea originally because tattoo coverups can be very tricky for artists, and most artists don’t like to do them simply because they have to jeopardize their artwork and also deal with the old tattoo eventually wanting to shine though the new tattoo. This means they have to pack black in dark, heavy and usually 2 to 3x bigger than the original tattoo they are covering up. With laser we can lighten the old tattoo down to a light grey and this will allow just about any color to wipe right over the old ink as if it doesn’t exist. This is a new process that a lot of people haven’t considered when it comes to laser and it really opens up the possibility’s for us in the tattoo world. The other side of laser we work with is NOT causing long term damage to the skin via blistering or hyper/hypo pigmentation. There is a TON of misinformation about laser and due to the fact that people don’t know a lot about it they tend to just believe what they see online and I’m trying hard everyday to change that perspective. I work whats called the “low and slow” method that insures we don’t have blistering or side effects caused by the laser that can eventually cause more issues when tryin to coverup the tattoo. What we aim for is to keep your skin in the same condition its in and give you back the skin you had previously to get the tattoo in the fist place. There is no need to create more issues when going though this process and I work hard with my clients to ensure that. We’ve had really great success with the process and look forward to continuing to help people fix, coverup and if they want, remove the tattoos they’re working with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well we’re in Evergreen and live in Idaho Springs so we spend most of our time in the mountains. if you’re going to come this way I would say get some Green Chili from The Buffalo for food or Italian at Tuscan Tavern in Evergreen. Coffee at the Frothy Cup (Idaho Springs) can’t be beat and the breakfast burrito’s from Main Street Cafe are some of the best in Colorado in my opinion. There’s plenty to do up here from Snowboarding our local hill Echo Mountain to the many many hiking and mountain biking trails. I always say, your bored its not our fault haha!
