We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Correa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jocelyn, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Yes! My Favorite affirmation is “You can do hard things”. Starting a small business has been one of the hardest, most overwhelming (in a scary good way) things I have ever done because this is something completely new for me, nobody showed me how to run a business or hand craft a T-shirt from beginning to end. I just decided to do it and not turn back. That is why I like this affirmation because it’s a daily reminder to keep going and si se puede [I can do this!]

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Have you ever seen the little tienditas (small shops) they have in Mexico where they sell all sorts of cute things? I want my online shop to be like that but also mixed with how I grew up here in the USA. I want to tell you why I want my shop and designs to have those aesthetic vibes to it. I was born in Mexico but brought to the USA when I was 2 years old so basically I was born here without being born here. I felt like I am not really from here or there (LOL). I have only gone back to Mexico one time so I am not sure how it really is over there, only from the stories I have heard. Growing up I was embarrassed to tell people that I am Mexican because I didn’t know what it was like to be over there or why certain things were done. I only knew what my mom would tell me but as the years passed by I had more conversations with people from where I am from, heard beautiful stories, made beautiful friendships and learned to make traditional dishes. I ended up falling in love with where I am really from. All cultures do different things and it is not a bad thing to be different even if I will never be 100% Mexican because I’m mixed with my Mexican/American culture. I feel proud of where I came from. When people buy something from my shop even if they aren’t Mexican I want them to be proud of where they came from too! That is why I want my shop to be a “Tiendita”, That is what I want my brand to represent!

I am so excited to keep making my business grow, I am excited for all the new things that are coming this fall to my shop. New designs, and an improved website! Hopefully you can visit my website and find something you like.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best week ever here we come!! Monday: For food lets go to the French Press and then go visit the Nature and science museum.

Tuesday: For food let’s go to the Denver Biscuit company and then go visit hanging lake and last but not least super late dinner at Belmar Asia Pho.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow! I can think of so many people who have helped me out but the first one is going to be my My Son, My little bestie. I had him at such a young age and never did I ever think I would become the person that I am today but he pushes me every day to become better and keep going. When I make a new design or a custom T-shirt he’s right there ready to tell me what a great job I do, so cute! I would also want to give a huge shout out to my husband. The time and effort that it takes to run a small biz is not easy but he is always ready to help me out with our kids and sometimes even helping me make the T-shirts when there are too many. He’s the best!

Last but not least, My Sister and Friends, which are like my sisters too! Always so ready to tell everyone about me and give me that confidence boost that I need.

They are all so amazing! I’m so thankful to be surrounded by the best family out there.
