We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Hoffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a career in the music industry because music and concerts have always been my escape from stress, life, etc. Live music and concerts have gotten me through many tough times, have provided me endless friends and colleagues, and truly gave me a sense of belonging in life so getting to curate live music events, among other events, is my way of trying to give back by kind of providing a similar space to others that has been so important to me over the years.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Currently, I work at Woods Boss Brewing and The Lodge at Woods Boss in Denver as the talent buyer and social media manager.
While I’m always proud of the quality of musical talent and acts that are being booked at such an intimate venue, what I’m most proud of is the fact that I’m trying to bridge the gap that I believe exists between artist and venue on a far too regular basis. I try to make sure that every band that walks through our doors knows they will be fairly compensated, that they are appreciated for the time/service provided, and that they feel as comfortable as possible while in our space, which isn’t always the norm, unfortunately.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver is great because it has so much to offer. Some of my favorite restaurants include Q House, Bar Dough, Root Down, and Bull & Bush. Each of those restaurants represent something different about what I love in the Denver food/beverage scene. I love going to spots such as Meow Wolf, the botanical gardens, and the Denver Art Museum, or Avalanche/Nuggets/Broncos games, in addition to any number of parks around town, for entertainment. I also love heading over to Golden for hiking and some breweries (Cannonball Creek or New Terrain) and if you’re willing to drive a little bit, the Frisco/Breckenridge area is also great for hiking and more breweries. I particularly like Outer Range Brewing and High Side Brewing for their food and beer out that way.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out to my girlfriend, Jenny, who has provided me with the love, support, and patience I didn’t know I needed while navigating the early stages of figuring out a career in the music industry. I’d also like to mention my parents, who have always been a great support system no matter what I have pursued.
