We had the good fortune of connecting with Joel Hills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity is really key to whatever you do in life. If you aren’t doing something you are passionate and excites you or at least working towards it at some level, it will cause you issues at some level.

First off, the feeling of lack created by doing something you don’t want to do as your life’s focus, will creep into all corners of your life. It will take time and you may not notice this is the cause, but it will happen.

Second, people can feel the authenticity when you are doing something you truly love. It can be easily seen in the quality of work associated with things you enjoy, because to you, it isn’t work at all.

Finally, you will cause yourself a frequency/vibrational mismatch in your life. This is especially true if you know there is something that you would rather be pursuing as your life’s focus.

We all have as much potential, as we choose to allow ourselves the ability to use. Most people restrain or limit their potential out of fear. The two greatest fears are the unknown and lack. However, if you are scared of the unknown, you could lose your job tomorrow, so why not make a plan to work towards what you love, today.

I think living a life without passion, is far scarier than any challenges associated with pursuing your dreams…..

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was a DJ a long time before jumping head first into producing. In the electronic music world, I played all the different sub genres during my time DJ’ing. There’s good music in every sub-genre, so I’ve taken all the pieces that have stood out from all of them and incorporated it into the music I make today.

Also music has saved my life multiple times through my life’s journey. If something I create, can provide that to someone else, Ive returned to EDM/Rave scene what it has given me.

Also my moniker has a couple layers of meaning. Agent Of Kaos is what Heath Ledger’s joker calls himself in Batman. I would say is safe to say that version of Joker was pushed to his limits by being knocked down again and again in today’s society. So he became an Agent Of Kaos to disrupt the society that hurt him so much.

I feel that no journey is easy, I’ve lost a multimillion dollar business to covid shutdowns, I’ve been homeless twice in my life to no fault of my own, just bad people trying to hurt others and pushing their traumas forward. I’ve been knocked down more times than I count.

However, it isn’t if/how you fall down, what you lose, the situation, any of it.

Your depth of character is if you keep getting back up every single time and try again and harder than before!

So I added (AOK) to the name as I believe that our society has to change, just as the Joker did in Batman. However, his means were absolute and without compromise, I choose (AOK) or Acts Of Kindness as my catalyst for change.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First off, if you love electronic music, (some people will disagree with this response, but I don’t care) Denver is the capital of the US for the EDM scene on a daily basis. (Especially Bass Music) It’s not a discussion on what big name is coming seven days a week, it’s to a level it’s become deciding what big name and supporting regional/local talent you want to support any given night. There’s amazing artists at a minimum of three to four venues any given night.

I love Your Moms House for the vibe and the name, The Church for allowing me relive Limelight in NYC I had went to once in my youth, Mission Ballroom for indoor big names and the crème de la crème of the area, for any show, Red Rocks. 🫶

For food around here,
Im Detroit born and raised (never forget where you came from) and Im a huge fan of Red Top Rendezvous Detroit style pizza.
For brunch Wonderyard, food, staff and drinks second to none
Local watering hole, Star Bar is a fav dive bar (Try the Malort)
Biggest secret food, The Porchetta House.

I don’t have enough time or space to list all the outdoors stuff here. I’ve lived in a fair amount of cities in the country, Denver, has the most trees when you look out at it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost to my beautiful fiancée Jennifer Houtman. When I explained to her what my passion was, she was the first person in my life who asked me “Well if you love it, why the heck aren’t you working towards it.” She has always been so supportive, I’m blessed every day she has been in my life!

Also to all the independent musicians and artists out there grinding for your dreams. You got this, keep evolving and doing what you love, with an unbridled fervor, and you will succeed!

It’s harder than ever at this moment in time, to be an artist or musician. You aren’t just creating the art, you are also the social media manager, marketing, design team, talent management, promotion team, booking agent and so much more.

So I want to give all the independent artists that are disrupting the big money labels in the entertainment industry a moment of praise. You are doing it, you got this, keep going!
