We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Murakami and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick, how do you think about risk?
When it comes to risk, there are several methodologies on this. When you’re un-purposed, life feels like a gamble. When you are able to see the fruits of your labor, your ideas come to fruition and your confidence in self and thought formulate you realize that risks become less risky.

Launching an insurance agency doesn’t seem like a big deal until you realize that you’re one of 30 agents within a 5 mile radius. The competition is fierce and vast. Many agents aren’t the face of their agency. My risk of launching an agency and being bold to go where other agent’s aren’t has yielded mostly positive results. We sold a million dollars in 16 months, we have self automated lead generation and I’ve been able to be the face of my business/industry by being bold enough to share my story. We were the first independent agency to win awards in our city.

Understand who you are, taking the risk to showcase your story and be authentic and removing self judgements is a risk, that has paid off dividends.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My background is in creative writing and poetry. I used to live stream a digital open mic on Twitch. This taught me how to build a tribe, a safe space and a place of community. Utilizing the skills from twitch’s digital platform, I used the similar skills in the workforce with entrepreneurs and small and local businesses to build a presence. I was able to launch a secondary business teaching others how to bring art into the corporate world, how to think outside the box and how to take existing businesses into building passive income.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love people watching and seeing people be in the moment. One of my favorite things to do is exhausting conversation and seeing if you traverse through the silence and find comfort. When you are comfortable with somebody’s presence it says a lot. It allows you to deep dive and find understanding. Outdoors and nature have a good sense of driving that spirit as well. Garden of the Gods, 7 falls are great hiking, being able to eat at some of the best restaurants such as Slice 420 Pizza, Sabrina’s Soul Food. Being able to walk people through mountains and city is what makes Colorado one of the most amazing places to be.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
