We had the good fortune of connecting with Jora Lemon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jora, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions in my life is leaving my homeland. It is really tough to start your life again and leave all your friends and family behind. It took me a while to improve my English language skill and start working in the tattoo industry, but even when the journey was tough, it helped me to grow and become the person I am today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in watercolor tattoos. It was a challenge for me when I just started because there isn’t a lot of watercolor tattoo artist in New York, so I learned by myself by watching Korean tattoo artist on youtube and searching for tips that can help me.
It is really important to me that my clients love their tattoos and it always makes me proud and happy when they come back to me again for their second or third tattoo onward.
When I just started doing tattoos, my goal was to make them look good, but right now my goal right now is to make sure my tattoo heals and looks as amazing as a fresh tattoo.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was guesting in Colorado but was originally based in New York. If you were to visit Denver, I would suggest the Denver Art Museum. I really enjoy my visit there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
On my long way to becoming a tattoo artist, who specializes in watercolor. I met a lot of great people. who show me love and support. First, I would like to thank my girlfriend and my mother. who support and believe in me when it was difficult and I didn’t believe in myself. I got my first tattoo machine on my birthday as a present from my mother, We were struggling with money at that time but my mother support my dream and even paid for my apprenticeship. I still keep this tattoo machine as a memento.
Next, I want to thank all the people I met in the tattoo industry, they all help me grow as an artist and a person. Their art and skill inspire me to be a better artist every day.
