Meet Jorge Torres Galvão | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jorge Torres Galvão and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jorge Torres, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I guess, this is a tuff questions to answer. This limit, is a variable to each individual being. But in a wider point of view, the limit is when you’re having fun with whatever you’re making. If you are not having fun anymore, if its to heavy to keep going, then it’s the time to give up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im a graffiti/graphic/esculptor artist that’s been working with creativity since the late 90’s. My first artistic intervension came thru graffitti when i was 14 years old. In a parallel path, i started working in a graphic design company called “Bureau de Vez” there, i used to perform several functions, like making the coffee, delivery boy and whatever there was to make.
With this mojo, i made my carer very young and i used to work for design companies at the age of 19, and also i was developing an street style that was unique for that time. As a true outsider, i didnt like the work that i was producing for advertisement companies, so i drop out of this promising carer to focus in my passion, that was my artwork.
But in brasil, to be an artist its not a easy function. So i became a freelancer art director and artist. With all this going on, i had m first daughter, Olivia, with 23 year old. A very young age to be a parent. So i made some good choices and end up living in FLorianópolis very close to the beach.
There i refocused on my production and ended up painting a lot, sculpting a lot and the best of it all, parenting a lot.
So it was not an easy path for me. It had lots of ups and downs, but i trully kept going with my passion ahead.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If i had to show around my city (Curitiba), i would start at the Oscar Niemayer Museum (MON). Than we would walk to downtown, eat at a delicious restaurant called Armazém Primavera, after that we would go to drink some beers and play some pool by the Gaucho skate plaza.
We also could go to Floripa and spend a whole week visiting the most beautiful beaches in the whole world.
And we would probably end it all up with a serious pubcrawling hehehehe

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know that it ain’t easy to make success as an artist, and we need to have support from other people, afterall, we don’t make it alone. Its always a group of forces that made it possible. I always thank all those that came before me and made the same path previously. But i wish to dedicate this especially to my daughter Olivia, my son Ernesto and my lifemate Paola.
